Snowflake Data Architect (ETL & Data Design Focused) NYC Onsite Domain:: Investment Boutique Firm 12-24Month We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Snowflake Data Architect to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of our data solutions on the Snowflake platform, with a strong emphasis on ETL/ELT processes and robust data modeling. This role requires a deep understanding of Snowflake's architecture and capabilities, coupled with proven expertise in optimizing and governing the Snowflake environment for performance, cost-efficiency, and security. The ideal candidate will be an expert in building efficient and scalable data pipelines and designing logical and physical data models that support complex analytical and reporting needs. You will work closely with data engineers, data scientists, business stakeholders, and other cross-functional teams to translate complex business requirements into effective data solutions, ensuring data quality and accessibility. Responsibilities: ●                   ETL/ELT Pipeline Design & Implementation: ○   Lead the design, development, and implementation of highly efficient and scalable ETL/ELT processes to ingest, transform, and load data into Snowflake from various source systems (e.g., databases, APIs, flat files, streaming sources). ○ Select, implement, and optimize ETL/ELT tools and frameworks (e.g., Snowpipe, Kafka, Fivetran, Matillion, Airflow, dbt) to streamline data integration workflows. ○ Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and error handling mechanisms within ETL/ELT pipelines. ○ Develop and maintain robust orchestration and scheduling for data pipelines. ●                   Data Modeling & Architecture Design: ○   Design and implement logical and physical data models optimized for Snowflake's columnar architecture, focusing on dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schema), data vault, or other appropriate methodologies. ○ Define and enforce data modeling standards and best practices for consistency and efficiency within Snowflake. ○ Collaborate with business users and data scientists to understand data requirements and translate them into effective data structures. ○ Provide expert guidance on Snowflake features, capabilities, and best practices for data storage, including micro-partitions, clustering keys, and caching mechanisms, with a view towards ETL efficiency. ●                   Snowflake Instance Optimization & Governance: ○   Optimize Snowflake virtual warehouses for performance and cost-efficiency, including sizing, auto-scaling configurations, and resource monitors. ○ Implement and enforce data governance policies, access controls (RBAC), and security measures within the Snowflake instance (e.g., dynamic data masking, row-level security). ○ Monitor Snowflake usage, performance, and costs, identifying and implementing optimization strategies, particularly related to ETL workloads and overall resource consumption. ○ Oversee the architectural configuration of Snowflake environments (e.g., development, test, production) to ensure consistency and best practices. ○ Develop and maintain documentation for architecture designs, data models, and operational best practices. ●                   Performance Tuning & Troubleshooting: ○   Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in Snowflake queries and overall instance operations, with a strong focus on ETL performance. ○ Conduct query optimization and provide recommendations for efficient data access and processing within data pipelines. ○ Troubleshoot data-related issues, ensuring data accuracy and availability. ●                   Collaboration & Leadership: ○   Collaborate effectively with data engineers, data scientists, business analysts, and other stakeholders to gather requirements, provide technical guidance, and ensure successful project delivery. ○ Mentor and guide junior team members on Snowflake ETL best practices, data modeling principles, and data architecture. ○ Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences clearly and concisely. Qualifications: ●                   Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field. ●                   8+ years of experience in data architecture, data warehousing, and/or data engineering. ●                   Extensive hands-on experience (5+ years) designing, building, and optimizing complex ETL/ELT pipelines on the Snowflake platform. ●                   Proven expertise in logical and physical data modeling for large-scale data warehouses/lakes on Snowflake. ●                   Significant experience (3+ years) optimizing and governing Snowflake environments for performance, cost, and security. ●                   Deep understanding of Snowflake's unique architecture, including its three layers (storage, compute, cloud services), virtual warehouses, and security framework. ●                   Strong proficiency in SQL, including advanced analytical functions, DDL, DML, and query optimization techniques specific to Snowflake. ●                   Expertise with various data ingestion and integration patterns and tools (batch, streaming, ETL/ELT tools like Snowpipe, Fivetran, Matillion, dbt). ●                   Solid understanding of data governance, data quality, data security, and compliance principles. ●                   Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their integration with Snowflake. ● Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python for automation and orchestration of ETL processes. ●                   Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. ●                   Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. ●                   Snowflake SnowPro certifications (e.g., SnowPro Core, SnowPro Advanced Architect, SnowPro Advanced Data Engineer) are highly desirable. Preferred Skills: ●                   Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker). ●                   Knowledge of DevOps principles and CI/CD pipelines for data solutions in Snowflake. ●                   Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git). ●                   Familiarity with machine learning concepts and how data is prepared for ML in Snowflake.
