Position Overview
The Snowflake Data Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing modern cloud-based data platforms that support healthcare and academic medical center environments. This role focuses on the implementation of Snowflake and AWS, as well as the data modernization initiatives, enabling secure, scalable, and high-performance analytics across clinical, operational, and research data domains.
The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on Snowflake engineering experience, strong AWS architecture and data engineering expertise, and a strong understanding of healthcare data, including clinical, claims, research, and real-world data in regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
Snowflake Platform Engineering
β’ Design, implement, and maintain Snowflake data architectures supporting healthcare and research analytics use cases
β’ Develop and optimize Snowflake objects including databases, schemas, tables, views, streams, tasks, and secure data sharing
β’ Implement performance tuning strategies, query optimization, clustering, and cost-optimization best practices
β’ Manage role-based access control (RBAC), data security, and governance within Snowflake
β’ Support multi-environment deployments (dev/test/prod) and enterprise-scale Snowflake implementations
AWS Data Engineering & Modernization
β’ Architect and implement AWS-based data ingestion and processing pipelines using services such as S3, Lambda, Glue, EC2, Step Functions, and SNS/SQS
β’ Lead data modernization initiatives migrating legacy on-prem or EDW platforms (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata) to Snowflake on AWS
β’ Design scalable ELT/ETL workflows integrating AWS services with Snowflake
β’ Implement CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) to support Snowflake and AWS environments
β’ Partner with cloud and security teams to ensure alignment with enterprise AWS standards
Healthcare & Academic Medical Center Data
β’ Engineer data pipelines supporting healthcare and research data sources, including EHR/EMR, clinical, and operational systems
β’ Work with healthcare data models and standards such as HL7, FHIR, OMOP, i2b2, and other real-world data frameworks
β’ Support academic medical center use cases including clinical research, population health, outcomes research, and regulatory reporting
β’ Ensure data quality, lineage, and traceability to support research reproducibility and compliance
β’ Collaborate with clinical, research, informatics, and analytics stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data solutions
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
β’ Partner with data scientists, analysts, architects, and application teams to deliver end-to-end data solutions
β’ Provide technical guidance and best practices for Snowflake and AWS data engineering
β’ Participate in architecture reviews, design sessions, and modernization roadmaps
β’ Contribute to documentation, data standards, and platform governance efforts
Required Qualifications
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
β’ 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or data platform development
β’ 3+ years of hands-on Snowflake engineering experience in production environments
β’ Strong experience architecting and building data platforms on AWS
β’ Proven experience supporting healthcare, academic medical center, or life sciences data environments
β’ Strong SQL skills and experience with ELT/ETL frameworks and data pipeline orchestration tools
β’ Experience working in regulated environments requiring strong data security and governance practices
Preferred Qualifications
β’ Direct experience supporting academic medical centers, healthcare systems, or clinical research organizations through a Snowflake or cloud implementation
β’ Experience with healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR, OMOP, i2b2, CDISC, etc.)
β’ Snowflake certifications (SnowPro Core, Advanced Architect, or Data Engineer)
β’ Experience with dbt, Airflow, or similar orchestration and transformation tools
