Software Database Engineer (Contract)
Please note that this is a contract role providing services to Microsoft through external staffing partners of Allegis Global Solutions. If you are selected for this role, you will be employed by AGS and will not be an employee of Microsoft.
Summary
This position offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced SQL performance engineers in validating database performance on cutting-edge hardware and software releases. The role focuses on identifying performance regressions, ensuring system stability, and collaborating with development teams to resolve critical issues. Working in a dynamic environment, you will contribute to long-standing performance testing initiatives while gaining exposure to advanced processor technology and cloud platforms. Daily collaboration with lead engineers will provide structured guidance as you execute performance tests, analyze results, generate comprehensive reports, and develop scripting solutions. This hands-on role requires strong analytical thinking and the ability to communicate technical findings effectively during regular team synchronization meetings.
Job Responsibilities
β’ Execute SQL performance tests on new hardware configurations and software releases under the guidance of lead engineers
β’ Analyze performance test results to identify regressions and stability issues
β’ Generate detailed performance reports documenting findings and trends
β’ Develop and maintain scripts using PowerShell or C/C# to support testing automation
β’ Participate in daily or twice-daily scrum calls to provide progress updates and surface blockers
β’ Collaborate with development teams to troubleshoot and resolve performance issues
β’ Follow established workflows and procedures for performance validation
β’ Document test methodologies, results, and corrective actions taken
β’ Monitor system compatibility and compliance with established standards
β’ Provide regular status updates on assigned tasks and project milestones
Requirements
β’ 0-2 years of relevant professional experience
β’ Practical experience with software development or engineering projects
β’ Exposure to performance testing or quality assurance processes preferred
β’ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field required
β’ Proficiency in programming languages including C, C#, and PowerShell
β’ Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
β’ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
β’ Knowledge of Windows operating systems
β’ Understanding of SQL performance concepts and diagnostics
β’ Ability to analyze workflows and identify corrective actions systematically
β’ Team collaboration and ability to work under supervision
β’ Attention to detail in test execution and results analysis
β’ Capacity to follow technical instructions and make consistent progress
β’ Adaptability to learn new technologies and methodologies
