SQL Analytics Engineer

Title: Senior Data Analytics & Reporting Engineer Location : Rockville, MD or McLean, VA Target Start Date : ASAP Type: contract Pay Rate: DOE Overview We are seeking a senior-level analytics professional to design and deliver scalable reporting, dashboards, and data-driven insights using enterprise data. This role focuses on advanced analytics and business intelligence—not data pipeline or ETL development. The ideal candidate is not just a task executor, but someone who challenges assumptions, refines metrics, and drives better decision-making through data. Key Responsibilities • Design, build, and optimize SQL-based analytics and reporting solutions • Analyze large datasets using cloud-based data platforms • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and KPI frameworks • Partner with stakeholders to define, refine, and standardize business metrics • Improve reporting efficiency through reusable queries, views, and data models • Build lightweight tools or automation to reduce manual reporting effort • Ensure data accuracy and reliability through validation and testing practices • Perform testing across reporting solutions, including: • Regression testing of dashboards and reports • Query performance and optimization testing • Unit and end-to-end (E2E) validation Required Qualifications • Advanced SQL skills, including complex query development, optimization, and performance tuning • Experience working with cloud-based data analytics platforms (e.g., query engines, relational databases, data warehouses) • Strong background in data analysis, reporting, and dashboard development • Solid understanding of KPIs, metrics design, and reporting logic • Experience with data validation, QA processes, and testing methodologies Preferred Qualifications • Experience with BI and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, QuickSight) • Familiarity with broader cloud ecosystem tools (e.g., object storage, data processing frameworks, serverless tools) • Exposure to front-end frameworks (e.g., Angular or similar) • Scripting or programming experience (e.g., Python) for automation • Exposure to CI/CD practices and testing frameworks Role Focus • Analytics, reporting, and insight generation • Cloud-based data querying and performance optimization • Business-facing data solutions (not ETL or data engineering pipelines) Welcome to ConsultNet, a premier national provider of technology talent and solutions.
