Role description
Job Title: SQL Database Administrator (Azure)Location: Remote (US)Salary: $35 - $37/hr
Job Summary:We are seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator with strong expertise in Azure MSSQL and PostgreSQL, with additional experience in MongoDB Atlas and other database platforms preferred. The ideal candidate will be responsible for database administration, performance tuning, security, backup/recovery, and supporting cloud-based environments. This role requires hands-on experience in managing, monitoring, and optimizing databases in Azure cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and administer Azure MSSQL and PostgreSQL databases, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.
Perform database installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrades in cloud environments.
Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement performance tuning strategies.
Implement and manage backup, restore, and disaster recovery plans to ensure data integrity.
Manage Atlas MongoDB and other databases as needed, including configuration, monitoring, and optimization.
Collaborate with development and data engineering teams on ETL processes, data pipelines, and cloud migrations.
Implement security best practices, including user roles, access controls, and encryption protocols.
Maintain documentation of database environments, procedures, and configurations.
Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, proactively identifying potential risks.
Automate routine tasks and database operations using PowerShell, Python, or Bash scripting.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Strong hands-on experience with Azure MSSQL and PostgreSQL.
Experience with MongoDB Atlas is preferred.
Solid understanding of database security, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
Experience with cloud-based database deployments, monitoring, and high-availability configurations.
Proficiency in T-SQL, PL/pgSQL, Python, PowerShell, or other scripting languages.
Knowledge of ETL processes, data lakes, and CI/CD pipelines is a plus.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
Minimum of 5–8 years in database administration, with significant experience in Azure cloud environments.
