Role description
Job Title:Β SQL Performance Optimization Analyst
Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)
Contract | Max Pay Rate: $52/hr.
We are seeking a highly technical, analytical, and self-driven SQL Performance Optimization Analyst who has βgrown up coding.β This role supports two of the organizationβs largest risk databases by analyzing, optimizing, and modernizing long-running queries that currently impact enterprise performance. The ideal candidate is autonomous, proactive, and able to turn ambiguous problems into concrete, efficient solutions.
This position partners closely with the database-owning teams, acting as the dedicated resource to fix inefficiencies that technology has already identified but does not have capacity to address.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Review, analyze, and optimize long-running SQL queries across major risk databases.
β’ Interpret existing data sources, logic, and output to determine the root cause of inefficiencies.
β’ Rewrite or re-architect complex queries, often reducing 50-line statements into 1-2 optimized lines.
β’ Where beneficial, rewrite logic using Python to improve performance or process automation.
β’ Convert frequently run or high-load queries into Tableau/Power BI dashboards to reduce database hits.
β’ Communicate findings, proposed solutions, and results proactively—surfacing questions early and independently.
β’ Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure changes improve performance without breaking downstream processes.
Required Qualifications
β’ Strong SQL expertise with hands-on experience opening, analyzing, and rewriting long-running queries.
β’ Deep technical foundation; someone who βgrew up codingβ and is comfortable navigating complex logic.
β’ Ability to independently identify performance bottlenecks and propose actionable solutions.
β’ Experience optimizing data workflows, structures, or query patterns.
β’ Proven ability to work autonomously without daily direction.
β’ Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
β’ Python experience for logic optimization or efficiency improvements.
β’ Tableau or Power BI experience to convert recurring queries into automated dashboards
β’ Experience supporting Market Risk or Counterparty Risk data environments.
