About The Role
FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking an experienced Database Administrator to work for our global Security & Defence client. This is initially a 3-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a remote role.
The DBA will play a key role in supporting the client's underlying database systems by managing and optimising database environments across SQL Server and Oracle. This role will ensure data availability, security, performance, and reliability across the platform, working closely with data engineers, developers, and cloud operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and maintain SQL Server and Oracle environments, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
Help design and implement database structures, schemas, and queries to support data ingestion, transformation, and analytics workloads.
Monitor performance and resource utilisation; tune queries and indexes to improve efficiency.
Help with backup recovery, and disaster recovery procedures across multiple environments.
Implement and maintain user access controls, roles, and permissions in line with security and compliance requirements.
Collaborate with DataOps and CloudOps teams to support deployments and ensure consistency across dev, pre-prod, and production environments.
Troubleshoot database connectivity and performance issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
Support automation of database provisioning, monitoring, and maintenance activities.
Contribute to capacity planning, version upgrades, and patch management cycles.
About You
Databases: SQL Server (on-prem & cloud incl. managed instances), Oracle 11g to 19c
Cloud Platform: Azure
Scripting & Automation: SQL, PowerShell
Performance Tuning: Query optimisation, indexing strategies, caching
Backup & Recovery: Tools and strategies for high availability and resilience
Security: Role-based access, encryption, data masking, audit logging
Preferred Experience
Experience in managing data within large, distributed, or hybrid cloud environments.
Understanding of data governance and compliance in enterprise settings
