Senior Data Governance Analyst
Location: Rochester, NY β 2-3 days onsite per week
About the Role
The Senior Data Governance Analyst plays a critical role in shaping and executing the enterprise-wide data governance strategy. This role ensures that data assets are managed effectively across systems and business domains, enabling high-quality, secure, and accessible data to support strategic decision-making. The analyst will collaborate with data owners, stewards, engineers, and business leaders to embed governance standards into operational workflows and analytics platforms.
Responsibilities
β’ Develop and maintain data governance policies, standards, and procedures aligned with enterprise goals.
β’ Lead initiatives to improve data quality, metadata management, and reference data consistency.
β’ Facilitate the Data Governance Council and domain workgroups to resolve cross-functional data issues.
β’ Partner with Data Owners and Data Stewards to define business rules, data classifications, and quality thresholds.
β’ Support change management efforts to embed governance practices into daily operations.
β’ Conduct data quality audits and root cause analysis to identify and remediate issues.
β’ Monitor compliance with governance standards and escalate risks as needed.
β’ Work closely with data engineers, BI developers, and analysts to ensure governance standards are applied across data pipelines and reporting tools.
β’ Provide training and support to business users on data governance practices.
β’ Develop dashboards and reports to track governance KPIs, data quality scores, and issue resolution timelines.
β’ Present findings and recommendations to executive leadership and governance committees.
β’ Lead agile project management practices for data management initiatives, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
β’ Manage and prioritize the data governance backlog, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and stakeholder needs.
β’ Track and resolve cross-functional dependencies across data domains, systems, and teams to ensure timely delivery of governance projects.
Qualifications
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Information Systems, Data Management, or related field; Masterβs preferred.
β’ 5+ years of experience in data governance, data quality, or enterprise data management.
β’ Strong understanding of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK), metadata, lineage, and stewardship models.
β’ Proficiency in data tools such as Power BI, Salesforce, QuickSight, and AWS Glue.
β’ Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Preferred Skills
β’ Experience with ERP and CRM systems integration (e.g., A+, Salesforce).
β’ Familiarity with regulatory requirements around data privacy and security.
β’ Ability to lead cross-functional workshops and drive consensus on data standards.
