Job Title: Senior SQL Server Migration Developer & DBA Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Server Migration Developer and DBA to help with large-scale database platform modernization and licensing optimization initiatives. This role will focus on converting Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition workloads—including complex Always On Availability Group deployments in multi-node clusters—into Standard Edition–based architectures while ensuring performance, resiliency, and compliance requirements are met. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in SQL Server HA/DR design, migration execution, Windows clustering, licensing analysis, and Microsoft certification standards. Key Responsibilities Lead SQL Server Enterprise → Standard Edition migration programs at scale, including strategy, design, execution, and validation. Assess existing environments consisting of hundreds of Availability Groups and multi-node WSFC clusters. Design Standard Edition–compatible HA/DR solutions leveraging platform-appropriate patterns such as AGs (where supported), clustering, log shipping, replication, or hybrid approaches. Conduct SQL Server licensing reviews to ensure compliance and cost optimization. Develop migration runbooks, implementation plans, and rollback procedures. Oversee deployment and configuration of WSFC clusters, failover policies, and related infrastructure. Conduct performance baseline tests and post-migration performance tuning to ensure equivalent or improved SLAs. Collaborate with enterprise infrastructure, storage, security, and application teams throughout project lifecycle. Document architecture, licensing impacts, configuration decisions, and operational procedures. Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to internal teams and/or client teams. Deliver projects in accordance with Microsoft certified services requirements and industry best practices. Required Qualifications 7+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration and architecture. Proven experience migrating SQL Server Enterprise → Standard environments at enterprise scale. Deep knowledge of SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, replication, and clustering technologies. Strong understanding of Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC). Expertise in SQL Server licensing models (core-based, virtualization, Software Assurance, Enterprise vs Standard feature sets). Proficiency in performance tuning, query optimization, and storage/network troubleshooting. Experience building HA/DR architectures and executing complex cutovers. Excellent documentation and stakeholder communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300) or equivalent. Legacy MCSE / MCSA in Data Platform or SQL Server a plus. Experience with monitoring tools (RedGate, SentryOne, DPA, SolarWinds, etc.). Experience operating within regulated or compliance-heavy environments. Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) for hybrid SQL scenarios.
