Role description
Staff Data Engineer - Data Science / Machine Learning • 100% Remote, based out of Maryland • Type: Contract-to-Hire • Visa: Must be USC or GC Holder Only! No 1099 or C2C Optomi, in partnership with a leader in the hospitality industry, is seeking a Senior Staff Data Engineer, proficient with Data Science and Machine Learning. This is a highly senior, hands-on engineering role responsible for designing, building, and owning AI-driven security automation systems that support enterprise-wide security review processes. The primary focus is the Security workflows, which evaluates all tools, systems, and capabilities entering the organization across security, privacy, and risk/compliance dimensions. The current state of the workflow process is largely manual and not scalable. This role is responsible for transforming it into an automated, AI-enabled system that integrates across core enterprise platforms such as mTrust and ServiceNow. Must Have Skills/ Requirements: • Proven ability to design, build, and deploy production-grade automation systems from scratch • Strong background in both security engineering and security architecture • Experience delivering tools or systems within a security, risk, or compliance context • Hands-on experience with AI-driven or agentic systems, including multi-agent or hierarchical workflows • Ability to design systems that support AI-assisted development and workflow automation • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including code structure, maintainability, and system design • Experience operating in large enterprise environments with complex governance and cross-functional dependencies • Ability to move from concept to architecture to deployment quickly and independently • Strong user-centric design mindset with experience building for multiple personas (non-technical to advanced users) • Experience integrating with enterprise platforms (e.g., ServiceNow or similar systems) • Ability to teach, guide, and support users across varying levels of technical expertise • Strong collaboration skills across security, legal, privacy, procurement, and global teams • Self-starter mentality with the ability to operate without oversight or handholding Nice to Have Skills/ Requirements: • Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms (AWS preferred) • Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerized environments • Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Temporal • Proficiency in Python (AI/automation) and/or Go (systems/orchestration) • Exposure to TypeScript or JavaScript for integration or UI layers • Experience working with risk management and compliance systems • Background in building or integrating with enterprise security control frameworks • Experience in environments with abstracted infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines
