Role description
Western Governors University (WGU) is seeking a Subject Matter Expert to participate in our Object Oriented Programming in Python Course Congruence Check project. This position is 100% remote. Subject Matter Experts provide valuable real-world knowledge and experience to the development of the courses we offer our students. This is a part-time/project-based position in which you would work with WGU as an Independent Contractor. Subject Matter Experts should meet the following criteria: β€’ β€’ β€’ Somebody who has taught object oriented programming and taught Python related courses (more academic) β€’ PhD (Preferred) OR Masters (Required) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer and Information Systems, Data Science, or Artificial Intelligence. 2 years minimum in a software engineer/developer role with PhD, 5 years minimum in a software engineer/developer role with a Masters, 2 years instructional experience preferred. β€’ Preferred Job Titles: β€’ Generally: (Senior/Staff/Lead) Software Engineer, Instructor, (Assistant/Associate)Professor β€’ Useful certifications: β€’ Generally: PMP, Project+, Security+, CISSP, Certified Scrum Master β€’ Useful technologies: β€’ Generally: Python, Java, C#, GitHub, and Jira Project Information Dates: 5/26/26 to 06/01/26 (Subject to slight change) Location: Remote Time commitment: Approximately 5 hours over 4 days. Compensation: $375.00 Other compensation and benefits: This position is for an independent contractor and is not eligible for other compensation or benefits. Scope of work: β€’ In the Course Congruence Check, SMEs look at curriculum and assessments and provide feedback on alignment between these elements. β€’ SMEs perform a side-by-side comparison, answering one simple question: "Does the course provide adequate information for students to be successful on each task prompt or assessment item?" SMEs answer "yes" or "no" for each prompt or item on the assessment. β€’ For performance assessments, SMEs also provide feedback on whether they feel that each rubric aspect appropriately measures candidate competence of the corresponding task prompt. β€’ Review may use the following deliverables and technologies: Word documents, Google documents, Excel spreadsheets, Question Authoring and Delivery (QuAD). Review may involve a full review of course content.
