Role description
One of the country's most innovative electric vehicle manufacturers is searching for a Senior Material Flow Engineer to join their Supply Chain Engineering team onsite in Normal, IL. In this role, you will own the full lifecycle of large-scale supply chain and logistics processes from concept design through successful implementation by bridging the gap between physical logistics and digital intelligence. This is a high-impact opportunity to help shape the future of manufacturing operations by engineering smarter, faster, and more automated material flow systems at scale.
This exciting opportunity to lead cutting-edge supply chain engineering begins as an initial 1 year W2 contract role based onsite in Normal, IL offering competitive benefits, standard working hours (8AM–5PM), and the strong potential for extension or conversion to permanent employment.
Responsibilities
• Engineer end-to-end supply chain and logistics processes from external warehouses to the assembly line, collaborating closely with production control, packaging planning, inbound logistics, factory design, and manufacturing engineering teams
• Develop detailed process designs including value-stream mapping, logistics routing, and warehouse layout planning
• Implement and oversee material flow equipment such as conveyors, EMS systems, AGVs, and ASRS systems
• Build analytical models to evaluate cost, throughput, and space efficiency across part sequencing, material batching, intermediate storage, and broader material flow strategies
• Lead high-impact automation initiatives that integrate AI and advanced technology to predict bottlenecks and optimize real-time throughput
• Plan, manage, and communicate project schedules to ensure alignment with overall program milestones
• Drive accountability across all projects to meet safety, quality, cost, timing, and throughput targets
• Operate as a technical leader capable of navigating ambiguity, driving cross-functional strategy, and applying first-principles engineering across a global footprint
Skills & Experience
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or a related field required; MBA or Master's degree preferred
• 5+ years of supply chain or material flow engineering experience
• 5+ years of hands-on, data-driven experience developing end-to-end supply chain, logistics, and/or material flow processes for high-volume, high-complexity production or logistics environments
• 3+ years of layout planning experience using 2D or 3D design platforms such as AutoCAD or MicroStation
• 1+ years of experience with modeling or simulation tools such as Flexsim or AnyLogic
• 1+ years of experience with data visualization platforms such as Microsoft PowerBI or Tableau
Preferred
• Experience with MES, MRP, WMS, or YMS systems
• Familiarity with Python for data analysis or workflow automation
• Background in automotive, electronics, or consumer products manufacturing preferred
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and communicate findings clearly to leadership
• PMP, APICS CPIM, CSCP, or CLTD certification
