We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Developer to support a large-scale application modernization initiative for an enterprise automotive client based in New Jersey. This role involves deep hands-on development work, including rewriting legacy Java applications into modern, cloud-native solutions on AWS. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in core Java, experience working with microservices architectures, and a track record of migrating enterprise applications from on-prem to AWS.
This is a client-facing role with high visibility, where you’ll work closely with internal and client-side development teams to assess existing applications, design scalable solutions, and build them using modern Java stacks and AWS services. You’ll be joining a global delivery team with an extensive backlog of work and a long-term roadmap.
Job Responsibilities
• Lead the design, development, and migration of custom-built Java web applications from on-prem to AWS
• Rewrite and modernize legacy Java applications into cloud-native microservices
• Work closely with client teams to understand the current application landscape, provide design input, and troubleshoot issues
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and backlog grooming sessions
• Conduct code reviews, ensure code quality (Sonar) and maintain code coverage standards
• Implement and optimize CI/CD pipelines
• Collaborate with DevOps and Cloud teams to deploy applications on AWS ECS, RDS, and CDK
• Provide regular status updates to stakeholders and escalate blockers proactively
Required Qualifications
• 6–10+ years of experience with Java/J2EE application development
• Strong hands-on experience with microservices architecture
• Deep knowledge of Core Java, object-oriented principles, and modern Java frameworks
• Proven experience with cloud migration and rewriting on-prem applications into AWS-native solutions
• Strong understanding of AWS services, especially ECS, CDK, RDS
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools, code quality practices (e.g., Sonar), unit testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit)
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
• Excellent problem-solving aptitude and ability to troubleshoot complex systems
• Strong communication skills with the ability to interface directly with client-side developers and stakeholders
Nice-to-Have
• Experience in the automotive or manufacturing sectors
• Familiarity with older Java frameworks or legacy systems
• Exposure to distributed, global team environments
