Role description
POSITION OVERVIEW Brooksource is seeking a Technical Lead for the Data Standards team at our Fortune 100 telecommunications client in Charlotte, NC. This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for building semantic models, defining metadata standards, and re-engineering data pipelines to support modern data architecture initiatives. As the Technical Lead, you will be the founding member of this newly formed team and will set the technical direction for the group. You will work closely with other data teams on AI-powered pipeline transformation, collaborate with enterprise architects on semantic modeling standards, and lead a distributed team of data engineers. This role requires deep analytical skills, strong data architecture expertise, and the ability to work independently on complex technical challenges. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Technical Leadership: • Serve as technical lead for Data Standards team • Design and architect semantic models for enterprise data warehouse • Define metadata standards, data definitions, and data quality frameworks • Re-engineer existing data pipelines and identify optimization opportunities • Collaborate across data teams on modern architecture transformation • Make technical decisions on data modeling approaches and tooling • Lead technical discussions with enterprise architects and data modelers Data Engineering & Analysis: • Analyze complex data systems and propose improvements • Build semantic models to support modern data architecture • Develop metadata frameworks and data cataloging approaches • Work with Snowflake, AWS, and modern data stack technologies • Write advanced SQL and Python for data analysis and pipeline development • Ensure data quality, consistency, and governance standards Team Leadership: • Mentor and guide team members on technical approaches • Provide technical direction and code review • Work independently on complex technical challenges • Share knowledge and build team capabilities REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Technical Expertise - 7+ years: • Snowflake experience (required) • Strong data architecture and data modeling background • Advanced SQL scripting and complex query optimization • Python for data analysis, scripting, and automation • Enterprise data warehousing concepts and best practices • Semantic modeling or dimensional modeling experience • AWS cloud infrastructure (Airflow, S3, EC2) • Data quality, data governance, metadata management • Strong analytical problem-solving abilities Leadership & Soft Skills: • Proven technical leadership on data engineering teams • Ability to work independently and drive initiatives • Strong mentoring and coaching abilities • Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders • Experience making architectural decisions • Proactive, self-directed approach to problem-solving PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience building semantic layers or semantic models • Data modeling for analytics (dimensional modeling, Data Vault, etc.) • AI/ML familiarity • Metadata management platforms or data catalog tools • Experience modernizing legacy data systems • Media/Advertising industry experience • SAFe Agile experience WORK ENVIRONMENT Company: Fortune 100 Telecommunications Hours: Standard 40-hour work week Dress Code: Business casual Schedule: Hybrid - 4 days onsite / 1 day remote Location: Charlotte, NC WHY JOIN THIS TEAM • Lead a new strategic data initiative from the ground up • Work with cutting-edge semantic modeling and AI/ML technologies • High-impact role shaping enterprise data architecture • Collaborative environment with experienced data leaders • Opportunity for contract extension based on performance • Modern tech stack with continuous learning opportunities BENEFITS OF WORKING WITH BROOKSOURCE • Direct communication with hiring managers • Transparent and efficient interview process • Dedicated recruiting support • Established client relationship
