Temporary Database Administrator (Hybrid – Baltimore, MD)
Location: Hybrid (Baltimore, MD)Job Type: Contract | Part-time (up to 30 hrs/week) | 6 months
We’re seeking an experienced Database Administrator to support a mission-critical Maryland State system in an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) environment. This role is focused on stability, reliability, and rapid incident response, not new development or modernization.
This is a hybrid role requiring on-site work in Baltimore at least two days per week.
What You’ll Do
Monitor production database health, performance, and availability
Perform routine maintenance, indexing, and performance tuning
Ensure backups are running correctly and perform restores when needed
Respond quickly to incidents, outages, or performance degradation
Diagnose and resolve database-related issues impacting application availability
Maintain and test disaster recovery and recovery procedures
Document configurations, maintenance routines, recovery steps, and changes
Coordinate closely with internal IT and business stakeholders
Support minor database enhancements or structural adjustments as required
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, MIS, or related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years hands-on experience administering production relational databases
Strong experience with one or more of the following: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle
Proven experience with: Backup and restore, Disaster recovery, Performance tuning and query optimization, SQL development (queries, stored procedures, views, functions)
Experience supporting systems in an O&M / production support environment
Preferred Experience
Experience supporting government systems, public sector platforms, or eligibility systems
Comfortable working in regulated, high-availability environments
Strong documentation and communication skills
Work Arrangement
Hybrid: Minimum 2 days per week on-site
Location: Baltimore, MD
Schedule: Up to 30 hours per week
