Terraform Developer

Location: Onsite Hybrid 3 days a wk; Office location is Jersey City NJ Required Pay Scale: $60-65hr W2 • • • Due to client requirements this role is only open to USC or GC candidates • • • Summary: Seeking a Senior Terraform Developer to design, build, and operate infrastructure-as-code solutions that enable scalable, repeatable, and secure platform services. This role is ideal for an engineer with deep expertise in Terraform module design, resource modeling, and API-based integrations, coupled with strong automation and testing discipline. The Senior Terraform Developer will be responsible for developing and maintaining reusable Terraform modules that model complex infrastructure and platform resources, including integrations with external systems via APIs. This role emphasizes clean module interfaces, strong abstractions, and maintainable state management, ensuring infrastructure configurations are reliable, auditable, and extensible. A key responsibility of this role is to implement end-to-end automated testing for infrastructure changes, validating behavior across planning, provisioning, integration, and lifecycle operations. The ideal candidate will leverage Go and Python to build tooling, automation workflows, and custom validation frameworks that support infrastructure delivery at scale. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills across large-scale, multi-environment deployments, including the ability to analyze Terraform plans, provider behaviors, API interactions, and state drift. As a senior engineer, the candidate will influence standards, best practices, and architectural direction, while mentoring other engineers and collaborating closely with platform, security, and application teams • 8+ years of overall software or platform engineering experience • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing and operating Terraform-based infrastructure solutions in enterprise environments • Deep expertise in Terraform module design, including input/output modeling, composition patterns, and versioning strategies • Strong experience modeling infrastructure and platform components that integrate with external APIs and services • Proficiency in Go (Golang) for Terraform-related tooling, testing frameworks, or provider development • Strong experience using Python for automation, orchestration, and validation workflows • Proven experience implementing end-to-end automated testing for infrastructure, including plan validation, integration testing, and lifecycle testing • Strong understanding of Terraform state management, dependency modeling, and drift detection • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot Terraform executions and resolve issues related to providers, APIs, and resource lifecycles • Proficiency with Git and modern CI/CD workflows, including code reviews and automated pipelines • Experience developing or extending custom Terraform providers or working directly with provider SDKs • Strong understanding of API authentication and authorization concepts, including token-based auth and service credentials • Familiarity with contract-driven resource modeling and aligning Terraform abstractions to underlying service APIs • Experience integrating Terraform workflows into CI/CD pipelines with policy checks and automated validation • Knowledge of policy-as-code frameworks (e.g., Sentinel, OPA) for enforcing infrastructure standards • Experience working in cloud or hybrid environments, including networking, security, and platform services • Strong appreciation for clean, well-documented Terraform code, with an emphasis on reusable and supportable modules • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, contribute to design reviews, and influence infrastructure standards • Excellent collaboration skills, with experience working across platform, application, and security teams About Matlen Silver Experience Matters.
