Role description
Position Summary
The Test Set Engineer II is responsible for the design, development, deployment, and support of test software and test hardware (including adapters and cables) for Line Replaceable Units (LRU) and Shop Replaceable Units (SRU). These test solutions support automated and semi-automated test systems across Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 testing.
This role includes the documentation, release, and configuration control of test engineering processes and hardware drawings within the company document repository system. The Test Set Engineer II also executes and analyzes test results and logs for IFEC products, systems, and components to ensure compliance with quality standards and design specifications, while identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving issues.
The position supports test tool deployment and sustainment for both production and repair environments at internal facilities, airline repair stations, and contract manufacturers. Responsibilities include managing support requests through tools such as JIRA, email, and Microsoft Teams, and providing direct on-site support when required. Domestic and international travel may be necessary when remote support is insufficient.
The Test Set Engineer II works closely with cross-functional teams including Product Support Engineering (PSE), Integrated Supply & Program Management (ISPM), and Design Authority teams to troubleshoot test tools (hardware and software), propose and implement improvements, and enhance fault isolation capabilities. The role also includes managing test tool hardware obsolescence and proposing suitable alternatives.
Responsibility
1. Leadership: Influence internal and external customers and stakeholders. Lead meetings as a representative of the engineering organization.
1. Solution Development: Proactively monitor in-service test tool performance and implement solutions to maintain high performance levels. Collaborate Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to ensure product quality and achieve testing project goals. Work with other departments (e.g., PSE) to define, design, and develop test solutions for their projects. Manage the implementation of product engineering change orders (ECOs) into test tools (hardware and software).
Perform defect management by collaborating with interdepartmental teams to resolve identified issues. Participate in design reviews to provide feedback on testability and implementation. Provide test tool obsolescence solutions. Mitigate test-related issues at contract manufacturers, internal facilities, and airline repair stations. Develop and maintain test automation frameworks and scripts. Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.

1. Communication: Communicate effectively across all organizational levels and with external customers, including Field and Repair Shop personnel, using both verbal and written communication. Represent the organization when working with OEMs, suppliers, contract manufacturers, and customers on technical matters. Synthesize complex technical issues into clear and understandable explanations.
1. Financial Impact Lead initiatives to reduce sustaining and repair co sts to the organization.
Define project scope, including estimated project hours, level of effort, and cost.
Perform procurement-related activities such as RFQs, purchase requisitions, and order management for internal and external customers related to test tools.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelorβs degree in a relevant field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with a minimum of 6 years of relevant engineering experience.
Experience with software programming environments and operating systems, including but not limited to:
Windows 7 / 10 / 11
Linux variations
NI LabVIEW and TestStand
Visual Studio
Experience with communication and networking protocols, including but not limited to:
Ethernet, USB, RS-232, RS-422, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and networking protocols
Working knowledge of interfacing and networking concepts, including serial communication, Ethernet, IP/MAC addressing, VLANs, broadcast, and multicast.
Working knowledge of test instruments such as spectrum analyzers, power meters, audio analyzers, signal/function generators, oscilloscopes, and other related test equipment.
Ability to follow test procedures with strong attention to detail.
Strong work ethic with a high level of accountability and integrity.
Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced, autonomous, and demanding environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of SAP and JIRA systems.
Knowledge of additional programming languages such as Android or Python.
Experience with version control tools such as Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
Familiarity with ARINC standards applicable to IFE and/or airborne satellite communication systems.
Familiarity with digital and RF test techniques.
Familiarity with audio and video analysis, including NTSC television standards.
