Role description
A nonprofit organization in New York City has a great Part-time opportunity awaiting a new AI Engineer. In this role, the AI Engineer will be responsible for managing and expanding the client's AI chatbots and related AI systems.
About the Opportunity:
β’ Schedule: 20-hour week (availability between 9am to 5pm EST)
β’ Setting: Remote schedule, local presence in NYC highly preferred for occasional onsite meetings with the team

β’ Responsibilities:
β’ Develop, test, and refine prompts for AI chatbots to ensure they provide accurate, helpful, and ethical responses in legal contexts
β’ Manage existing AI chatbots, monitoring performance and implementing improvements
β’ Document AI prompting strategies, templates, and best practices
β’ Run and maintain open-source Large Language Models (LLMs) in local environments using Docker
β’ Develop and test AI solutions to business needs
β’ Implement safeguards to ensure client confidentiality and data security
β’ Collaborate with staff to understand their needs and translate them into effective AI solutions
β’ Train and orient staff on using AI prompts in safe, ethical, policy compliant manner
β’ Train and support non-technical staff on effective AI system use
β’ Evaluate AI model outputs for accuracy, bias, and alignment with mission and values
Qualifications:
β’ 1+ year of experience with AI systems, Prompt Engineering, or Natural Language Processing
β’ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or related field
β’ Demonstrated experience with Prompt Engineering for large language models
β’ Working knowledge of Docker and Containerization technologies
β’ Basic understanding of Legal terminology and processes
β’ Strong ethical judgment regarding AI implementation and data privacy
β’ Proficiency in crafting effective prompts for AI systems to produce desired outputs
β’ Strong writing and communication skills
β’ Experience in project planning and management
β’ Problem-solving mindset and attention to detail
Desired Skills:
β’ Experience with legal technology or AI applications in legal settings
β’ Familiarity with open-source LLMs (such as Llama, Mistral, etc.)
β’ Knowledge of Python programming language
β’ Experience with version control systems (Git)
β’ Understanding of responsible AI principles and bias mitigation
