Role description
JOB DESCRIPTION: Title: Art Director Location: Hybrid - 3 days onsite/per week - New York, NY, 10036 Duration: 6-month contract Our client is seeking a passionate visual storyteller with a background in editorial design. The ideal candidate is digital-focused but print-familiar and able to seamlessly shift between design, art direction, and data visualization for complex financial and business stories. This Art Director will be part of a three-person design team and will report to the Head of Visuals. We're looking for somebody who has… β€’ 5+ years in an editorial department or newsroom role β€’ Great communication skills and comfort working directly with editors β€’ Excellent journalistic judgment and integrity β€’ Excellent grasp of visual and typographical hierarchy β€’ Knowledge of news, politics, finance β€’ Ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom–juggling hourly, daily, and weekly deadlines β€’ Experience in assigning and art directing illustrations β€’ An existing network of artists with the ability to identify fresh and emerging talent β€’ The ability to distill data into easily digestible visualizations and walk readers through complex information in an engaging way . Must Haves: β€’ Deep newsroom experience β€’ Experience in publication design department (no junior roles) β€’ An assertive, production-oriented go-getter β€’ Adobe CC expertise β€’ Basic HTML + CSS, other applicable web languages related to data β€’ Visualization β€’ At ease working in a digital CMS, e.g., WordPress β€’ Experience with Figma is a plus β€’ Experience with Methode or other print-related CMS is a plus β€’ Interest in and understanding of the financial world is a plus
