AV Safety Data Engineer

Title: AV Safety Data Engineer Job Type: Contract (W2 Only) Contract Length: 6 months Pay Range: $90 - $100/hr Start Date: ASAP Location: Onsite - Foster City, CA About The Opportunity Our client, a leader in Automotive Technology, is looking for a skilled AV Safety Data Engineer to join their team for a 6 months engagement. This project involves developing and maintaining robust data infrastructure to surface safety-relevant interactions, assess autonomous vehicle (AV) events, and inform autonomy development through data-driven insights. This is a high-impact role that requires a self-motivated professional who can hit the ground running and deliver results quickly. Key Responsibilities & Deliverables This role is focused on the successful completion of specific tasks and deliverables. Your responsibilities will include: • Develop and maintain miners that identify critical safety events and interactions from fleet and simulation data. • Improve the accuracy and efficiency of existing miners using advanced statistical and ML techniques to ensure high signal quality. • Build scalable data pipelines and dashboards to monitor miner performance and key safety metrics. • Conduct exploratory data analyses to uncover trends, failure modes, and opportunities to improve vehicle behavior. • Triage and assess AV events (system behavior and hardware anomalies) for potential safety/legal/regulatory concerns. • Develop and maintain clear triage guidelines and criteria for both onshore and offshore teams. Required Skills & Experience: We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful contract engagements. The ideal candidate will have: • 6+ years of experience working with safety-critical systems in AV, Automotive, or a closely related industry. • Deep expertise in strong data engineering skills, including data wrangling and building maintainable, scalable, and efficient data pipelines. This isn't a learning role—you need to be a subject matter expert. • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with experience using large datasets and distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Databricks). • Strong understanding of behavioral safety concepts, AV requirements, and the ability to interpret vehicle behavior in real-world contexts. • Proven ability to design metrics, run analyses, and translate findings into actionable recommendations. • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage your own time effectively to meet project goals. • Strong communication skills to work cross-functionally and clearly communicate technical content to both engineering and non-technical audiences. W2 only (No C2C or 1099 contractors)
