Role description
System One is seeking an Azure Data Engineer (ERP) for a long-term opportunity in St. Louis, MO. The Data Engineer will lead and implement data engineering projects that integrate data from multiple ERP systems into both operational and analytical platforms. This role combines hands-on pipeline development, data modeling, and reporting enablement using Microsoft Azure, Synapse, Power BI and Fabric.
Responsibilities
• Develop, maintain, and optimize data pipelines from D365 Finance & Operations using Synapse/Fabric Link and Azure Synapse/Fabric Pipelines.
• Integrate data from other ERP systems (SAP, Infor XA) into the ERP Power BI semantic model.
• Monitor and optimize pipeline performance and cost, ensuring SLA compliance.
• Design and build sustainable database models (bronze ? silver ? gold).
• Automate processes to improve scalability and efficiency.
• Build ETL/ELT infrastructure using Azure (Data Lake, Databricks, SQL) and Dataverse.
• Deliver analytical tools that provide insight into key business KPIs.
• Partner with IT and business teams to support reporting and analytics needs.
• Contribute to data governance, documentation, testing, and QA.
• Mentor junior developers on ETL and BI design.
• Support data science initiatives (exploratory analysis, predictive models, AI/ML).
• Ensure compliance with security, privacy, and data retention standards.
Required Experience
• 3–5+ years in data engineering/analytics within a cloud platform (Azure preferred).
• Strong experience with Azure Synapse Analytics and ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Expertise in SQL and data modeling, plus coding/scripting with Python, Spark, or Pandas.
• Hands-on experience with ADF, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake, Databricks, Power BI, and Fabric.
• Knowledge of database design, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
Preferred Experience
• Manufacturing industry background.
• Direct experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and Customer Engagement.
• Familiarity with:
• Microsoft Fabric & Synapse Link / Fabric Link
• Azure DevOps, Key Vault, Entra (AD)
• BI modeling tools (Power Query, DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, Visual Studio)
• Power BI semantic modeling and reporting
