Kforce has a client that is looking for a highly skilled and proactive Azure SQL Consultant (Remote) to join their team. Summary: This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Azure SQL solutions across PaaS, IaaS, and hybrid environments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Azure SQL technologies, performance tuning, automation, and cross-functional collaboration with DevOps, security, and application teams. This position is remote, but the candidate will be needing to support PST hours. Further position is slated for 5-6 months but has a possibility to extend. Key Responsibilities:
β’ Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance Azure SQL database solutions (PaaS, Managed Instance, IaaS)
β’ Perform proactive engineering tasks such as performance tuning, indexing strategies, and automation of routine operations using PowerShell, T-SQL, and ARM/Bicep templates
β’ Monitor and troubleshoot database performance using tools like Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Query Store
β’ Collaborate with application teams, DevOps, and platform engineering to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance
β’ Lead or participate in technical discussions, architecture reviews, and incident resolution
β’ Ensure compliance with CIS standards, SOX audits, and internal governance protocols
β’ Support database migration initiatives from on-prem to Azure SQL using Azure Database Migration Service
β’ Maintain documentation, playbooks, and operational procedures to support knowledge transfer and process improvement
Requirements
β’ 5+ years of experience in SQL Server administration and engineering, with at least 2 years in Azure SQL environments
β’ Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Monitor, and Azure Key Vault
β’ Experience with diagnostic and performance tools (e.g., Idera, Extended Events, Query Store)
β’ Strong knowledge of Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, and SQL on Azure VMs
β’ Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
β’ Strong understanding of database security, backup strategies, and disaster recovery planning
β’ Proficiency in scripting and automation (PowerShell, T-SQL, ARM/Bicep)
β’ Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
β’ Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
β’ Ability to work independently and lead initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
β’ Microsoft certifications such as AZ-900, DP-300, or equivalent
β’ Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, or other cloud data platforms is a plus
β’ Familiarity with compliance frameworks (SOX, HIPAA) and audit processes
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
