Backstage Developer

Job Title Backstage Developer (Contract) Location Hybrid – Plano, TX Employment Type Contract Job Overview We are seeking a skilled Backstage Developer to join our platform engineering team and help build and enhance an internal developer portal using Backstage. The role will focus on improving developer experience, enabling service discovery, and integrating internal tools into a centralized platform. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in modern web development, developer platforms, and cloud-native environments, and will collaborate closely with DevOps, platform engineering, and application teams. This role follows a hybrid work model with periodic onsite presence in Plano. Key Responsibilities Backstage Platform Development • Design, develop, and customize plugins and integrations for the Backstage developer portal. • Build and maintain templates, scaffolding tools, and service catalogs to standardize application development workflows. • Enhance the internal developer experience through automation and self-service capabilities. Integration & Tooling • Integrate Backstage with enterprise tools such as: • CI/CD pipelines • Source control systems • Monitoring and observability tools • Cloud infrastructure platforms • Develop APIs and services to support portal functionality. Frontend & Backend Development • Implement features using TypeScript, Node.js, and React. • Build scalable backend services and UI components for platform capabilities. Platform Engineering Collaboration • Work with DevOps and platform engineering teams to implement infrastructure and automation. • Support onboarding of development teams onto the developer portal. Governance & Documentation • Define best practices and standards for Backstage plugin development. • Document platform capabilities and developer workflows. Required Qualifications • 5+ years of software development experience. • 2+ years working with developer platforms or internal developer portals. • Hands-on experience with Backstage development or customization. • Strong experience with: • TypeScript • React • Node.js • Experience with REST APIs and microservices architecture. • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure.
