Role: Bioinformatics Specialist (Remote)

Payout: $20 - $60/hour
Role Overview:
We are hiring for one of our clients, seeking a Computational Biology Expert to work on a contractor basis. This expert will apply their biology domain expertise to evaluate, annotate, and benchmark AI systems in real-world computational biology use cases, shaping how models learn, reason, and perform in the biotechnology industry. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on high-impact projects, contributing to the development of next-generation AI systems. The role requires a strong understanding of genomics, transcriptomics, and systems biology, as well as advanced analytical reasoning skills.
Key Responsibilities:
• Leverage biology domain expertise to evaluate, annotate, and benchmark AI systems in real-world computational biology use cases, such as genomics, transcriptomics, and systems biology scenarios.
• Assess the accuracy, relevance, and performance of AI-generated outputs in various biological contexts, including structural biology and bioinformatics analysis.
• Apply advanced analytical reasoning to critically review scientific workflows and pipelines, identifying strengths and weaknesses in AI systems and pipelines.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement high-quality, real-world input for AI systems, ensuring that models are trained on relevant and accurate data.
• Develop and maintain detailed documentation of workflows, pipelines, and results, ensuring that all work is thoroughly documented and easily reproducible.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Strong expertise in computational biology, including experience with Python, R, Bash, and other relevant programming languages and tools, such as BWA, GATK, STAR, and Salmon.
• Experience with bioinformatics analysis, including genomics, transcriptomics, and systems biology, as well as structural biology and AI/ML evaluation.
• Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools, such as Seurat and Scanpy, and experience with NGS pipelines and alphafold.
• Excellent scientific reasoning, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively in written and verbal form.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience working in interdisciplinary teams and contributing to open-source projects.
