Introduction: We are seeking a proactive and resourceful Sr. Business Analyst to join our utility client's Gas Strategy team. This role will focus on evaluating and developing strategies for key projects and technologies, ensuring the company stays ahead of industry trends and invests in the right tools and solutions. You will play a pivotal role in conducting research, analyzing costs, and presenting actionable recommendations to senior leadership. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a strong financial analysis background and excellent communication skills, ready to take on complex strategic projects in the energy and utilities sector.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Strategic Planning & Analysis: Research and analyze trends in the energy industry, market conditions, and regulatory changes to support strategic decision-making.
β’ Financial & Cost/Benefit Analysis: Conduct financial analysis, including creating models to evaluate the costs, resources, and potential benefits of new tools or products in the field.
β’ Project Management: Oversee and manage various strategic projects, ensuring they are executed within budget and on time, from the initial strategy phase to completion.
β’ Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with internal teams and external partners (such as third-party consultants) to gather data, align objectives, and ensure successful project execution.
β’ Presentations & Reporting: Prepare presentations and detailed reports that clearly communicate findings and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders, with an opportunity to grow into a presenting role.
β’ Tool Evaluation & Strategy Development: Evaluate new tools, technologies, and processes (such as digital solutions in the field) to determine their viability, cost, and long-term benefits for the company.
Example Projects:
β’ Gas Metering and Devices Strategy: Support modifications to the financial model for pilot programs and program rollouts.
β’ Digital As-Builting: Collaborate with consultants to propose future strategies for as-builting and enterprise traceability.
β’ Natural Gas Cross Compression: Perform cost/benefit analysis to estimate emission reductions from cross compression activities.
β’ New Tool Value Analysis: Conduct analysis on when and where to invest in new field equipment for maximum value.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
β’ Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and make informed recommendations.
β’ Financial Analysis: Proven experience in financial modeling, cost comparison, and estimating project costs.
β’ Microsoft Excel Proficiency: Must be highly skilled in Excel, including pivot tables, and financial modeling.
β’ Data Analysis: Experience in analyzing data and creating reports; familiarity with KPI dashboards is a plus.
β’ Project Management: Experience managing cross-functional projects, ensuring deadlines are met and resources are allocated effectively.
β’ Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare and deliver presentations to senior leadership.
β’ Self-Starter: Must be able to work independently, proactively identifying challenges and solutions.
β’ Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills:
β’ Industry Experience: Knowledge of the energy sector, particularly in gas or utilities, is preferred.
β’ Dashboard Tools: Experience with PowerBI, Tableau, or similar tools for tracking KPIs is a plus.
β’ Microsoft Project: Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Project is desirable.
β’ Certifications: Agile/Lean certifications or similar project management training is a plus.
Education/Experience:
β’ Bachelorβs degree required in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Operations, or a related field.
β’ Minimum of 4 years of experience in financial analysis, project management, or a related field within the energy or utilities industry.
