Job Description -BCP / DR Business Analyst
Role Purpose
The BCP / DR Business Analyst is responsible for bringing discipline, clarity, and governance to the enterprise Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity program.
The role ensures that recovery decisions, automation, and executive reporting are based on accurate data, consistent standards, and defensible business impact logic.
This is not a DR plan authoring role and not a tooling administration role.
The position exists to stabilize the operating model, correct foundational weaknesses, and enable confident decision-making during major incidents.
\_\_\_\_\_\_
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance & Integrity
• Establish and enforce enterprise standards for RPO, RTO, business impact, application criticality, ownership, and dependencies.
• Define accountability models, validation workflows, and quality thresholds for DR-related data.
• Monitor and report on data completeness, freshness, consistency, and accuracy across thousands of applications.
• Lead structured data remediation efforts using pragmatic, manual approaches where required to achieve speed and accuracy.
\_\_\_\_\_\_
Prioritization & Risk Control
• Design and maintain a business-impact-driven prioritization framework that determines recovery order during disruptions.
• Eliminate subjective or inflated criticality classifications through objective scoring and governance review.
• Ensure prioritization logic is reflected consistently across runbooks, escalation paths, and incident communications.
• Support real-time decisioning during large-scale incidents to ensure focus remains on true business, safety, and regulatory priorities.
\_\_\_\_\_\_
Executive & Stakeholder Communication
• Translate complex DR and resilience concepts into clear, leadership-ready narratives.
• Prepare concise materials such as maturity assessments, risk summaries, and readiness indicators.
• Align executive expectations with operational reality using data-backed insights rather than assumptions.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership during preparedness discussions and active incidents.
\_\_\_\_\_\_
Incident Readiness & Operational Discipline
• Define and maintain incident response communication models, including roles, escalation paths, and time-bound update cadences.
• Support the establishment of tiered testing and validation rhythms appropriate to application criticality.
• Identify gaps exposed by incidents or exercises and drive corrective actions through governance rather than ad-hoc fixes.
• Enable follow-the-sun coordination and liaison engagement during enterprise-wide events.
\_\_\_\_\_\_
Governance & Continuous Improvement
• Create repeatable governance mechanisms that sustain data quality, prioritization accuracy, and operational readiness.
• Partner with security, infrastructure, application, and business teams to embed resilience practices into day-to-day operations.
• Define metrics and dashboards that demonstrate progress, risk reduction, and readiness over time.
• Identify when tooling, automation, or managed services are appropriate — and when they introduce unnecessary risk.
