Business Analyst-Intermediate
Summary:
The Rhode Island Department of Health is seeking a Business Analyst-Intermediate to support data operations and public reporting efforts within the Center for Vital Records. This role will enhance how vital statistics are collected, validated, and shared. This is a high-level position for a candidate who thrives in analytical environments, takes initiative, and can confidently learn an existing system and shape data processing improvements. The ideal candidate will have a thorough knowledge of techniques utilized for managing large datasets; the ability to organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and present findings in a clear and concise manner.
Responsibilities:
• Drive improvements in data quality, timeliness and reporting from the Rhode Island Vital Events Registration System (RIVERS)
• Standardize data quality control protocols for birth, death, and marriage records
• Develop and maintain data governance documentation and data sharing standards
• Build a public-facing PowerBI dashboard to communicate annual trends and metrics
• Analyze data reports prepared by the team, support routine and ad hoc reporting
• Collaborate across teams and lead special projects with minimal supervision
• Perform special projects and additional tasks as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
• Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field (Bachelor’s with equivalent experience may be considered)
• Extensive experience with population-level data management and visualization
• Advanced skills in PowerBI, Excel (power user); proficiency with Crystal Report using a SQL Server database preferred
• Strong ability to analyze large datasets and translate data for clear public-facing reports
• Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills
• Demonstrated initiative and leadership with experience independently guiding high-impact projects
• Collaborative mindset with cross-disciplinary team experience
