Role description
About The Zig
The Zig is a technology and professional services company helping organizations modernize how they operate, scale, and compete in an AI-first world. We pair clear strategic direction with hands-on execution.
Founded in 2018, our core offerings include strategic advisory, implementation services, and managed solutions across cloud, data, and AI platforms.
Weβre just getting started. If youβre a builder who wants to work hard on meaningful problems, grow quickly, and create lasting impact during one of the most significant technology transformations of our time, weβd like to hear from you.
How We Work at The Zig
Built for learning velocity
We work on modern data and analytics platforms across industries. Learning is constant, and curiosity is expected.
Analytics that actually get used
We care about modeling, trust, and usability β not dashboards for dashboardsβ sake.
Strong fundamentals still matter
Clean data models, clear definitions, and reliable delivery are non-negotiable.
Global team
We prioritize talent, collaboration, and clear communication over location.
What We Offer at The Zig
Meaningful, real-world work
Youβll work on production analytics systems for real clients, solving real business problems.
Accelerated growth through ownership
BI Engineers at The Zig are trusted to own data models, reporting surfaces, and stakeholder outcomes.
Front-row exposure to modern analytics
Youβll work across modern BI tools, cloud data platforms, and evolving analytics patterns.
Investment in learning
We support certifications, training, and hands-on exposure to new tools and techniques.
Competitive compensation and benefits
Competitive pay, benefits, paid vacation, and flexibility to do your best work.
About the Role
We are looking for a BI Engineer to help design and deliver trusted, scalable analytics solutions across enterprise data platforms.
This is not a pure visualization role. Successful candidates are comfortable shaping data, reasoning about models, and partnering with stakeholders to deliver analytics that drive real decisions.
BI Engineers at The Zig work closely with data engineers, architects, and business users to ensure reporting is accurate, performant, and aligned with how the business actually operates.
Your general responsibilities will include:
β’ Designing and maintaining analytics-ready data models for reporting and self-service
β’ Building dashboards and reports using modern BI tools
β’ Partnering with stakeholders to translate business questions into clear analytics
β’ Investigating data quality issues and working with engineers to resolve them
β’ Contributing to standards around modeling, reporting patterns, and documentation
We believe BI Engineers do their best work when they are trusted with ownership and exposed to real business context. As a result, there is flexibility in how BI Engineers are staffed across projects based on strengths and interests.
Specific responsibilities may include:
β’ Designing reporting-ready datasets in collaboration with data engineers
β’ Delivering dashboards that balance usability, performance, and governance
β’ Supporting metric definition, alignment, and adoption
β’ Helping teams reduce ad-hoc reporting through strong self-service patterns
CORE EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED β 3+ YEARS)
β’ Experience in BI, analytics engineering, or data analytics roles
β’ Strong SQL skills and solid understanding of data modeling concepts
β’ Experience with at least one modern BI platform (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, Sigma, or similar)
β’ Comfort working directly with business stakeholders
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE (NICE TO HAVE)
β’ Experience with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Synapse, BigQuery, Redshift)
β’ Familiarity with Databricks or modern ELT workflows
β’ Exposure to multiple BI tools (tool-agnostic mindset)
β’ Experience supporting self-service analytics programs
