Role overview The primary purpose of the Business Intelligence Systems Developer is to design, develop, implement, and maintain high-quality internal software solutions and business data applications that drive operational efficiency and support strategic growth across the Group. This role requires strong technical expertise to manage the full software development lifecycle, ensuring our critical information systems are reliable, scalable, and meet the evolving needs of the business. You will be instrumental in integrating new technologies and improving existing infrastructure to provide robust data and process management capabilities. Key Accountabilities • Database Development and Maintenance: Oversee the management, development, and optimisation of SQL Server databases to ensure data integrity, high performance, and availability for business-critical applications. • Data Integration and ETL Management: Administer, develop, and maintain existing and new data integration pipelines using the proprietary Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) system to facilitate accurate data flow between business platforms. • Process Analysis and Improvement: Systematically document current business processes and technical workflows, identifying areas for improvement and redeveloping existing processes to enhance system efficiency and user experience. • Stakeholder Engagement and Consultation: Lead technical consultations and collaborations with key stakeholders across the business to define requirements, troubleshoot integration issues, and ensure solutions align with strategic objectives. • Specialised System Support: Provide ongoing dedicated development and support for specialised internal systems, maintaining their functionality and compliance throughout their lifespan. • System Documentation: Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all developed systems, integrations, and revised processes. Skills And Knowledge Technical Expertise: • Expert proficiency in writing and optimising complex SQL queries and functions within a SQL Server based environment. • Demonstrable proficiency in developing and maintaining dashboards and data models. • Competent ability to develop, modify, and document reports using proprietary systems. • Strong working knowledge of Power BI for data visualisation, and administration, including the management of Data Gateways. • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., Pivot Tables, complex functions) for data analysis and modelling. • Proficiency in a core development language relevant to business systems. • Knowledge of and ability to utilise integration principles for managing system-to-system data flow. • Professional Competencies: Highly analytical with a strong commercial awareness, capable of demonstrating how technical solutions drive business value. • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues effectively, demonstrating tenacity and resourcefulness to deliver durable solutions. • Ability to work independently and proactively take ownership of tasks and projects from inception to completion. • Proactive and curious approach to systems architecture, comfortable challenging assumptions and asking difficult questions to achieve the optimal outcome for stakeholders. Qualifications And Experience Essential • A minimum of five years of professional experience working in a dedicated Management Information or Business Intelligence Systems Developer role. • Proven track record of successfully designing, developing, and deploying robust SQL database solutions and ETL data integration processes. • Demonstrable experience delivering projects across the full software development lifecycle within a commercial environment. Desirable • A formal qualification (degree or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field. • Prior experience supporting business functions through key commercial systems or specialist insurance/financial services platforms. • Experience with cloud-based data technologies. • Knowledge of the Financial Services or a similarly regulated industry is advantageous.
