Role description
OpenShift Senior Engineer Whitehall resources are looking for an OpenShift Senior Engineer. This role is hybrid working with 3 days per week onsite in Sheffield, and the remainder remote working, for an initial 3-6 month contract. • • • Inside IR35 • • • Job Description: An OpenShift Sr Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and optimizing OpenShift environments to host workloads migrated from VMware. This role focuses on cluster architecture, integration with enterprise systems, automation, and ensuring high availability and security of the platform. Key Responsibilities: • Design and build OpenShift cluster architectures to support VMware workload migration. • Perform cluster installation, upgrades, and configuration to ensure stability and scalability. • Integrate OpenShift with enterprise systems, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring tools. • Implement networking components including CNI plugins, ingress controllers, and load balancers. • Configure and manage storage integration for persistent workloads. • Develop automation scripts and templates for cluster provisioning and lifecycle management. • Ensure compliance with security and regulatory standards across all environments. • Monitor cluster health and performance, applying proactive maintenance and troubleshooting. • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver optimized solutions. • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Required Skills & Qualifications: • Strong hands-on experience with OpenShift/Kubernetes engineering, including cluster installation and upgrades. • Proficiency in Linux system administration and troubleshooting. • Knowledge of networking concepts (CNI, ingress, load balancers) and storage integration. • Experience with containerization technologies and orchestration best practices. • Familiarity with automation tools (Ansible, Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines. • Understanding of security and compliance best practices for container platforms. • Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
