Role description
Senior Time-Series Engineer (Python or .NET) – Contract
£550/day
Hybrid (Watford)
4 Months
Outside IR35
We’re supporting a technology-led organisation building high-throughput, event-driven systems operating at scale.
They are looking for a Senior C# Engineer with proven time-series database experience to join a critical platform project.
This is not a general backend role. Time-series experience is essential and will be tested in depth.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Building high-performance backend services in C# / .NET
• Working directly with time-series databases (Azure Data Explorer / Kusto or InfluxDB)
• Designing and optimising data ingestion pipelines for high-volume event data
• Modelling data for efficient time-based querying
• Implementing partitioning strategies, retention policies, and downsampling approaches
• Improving query performance across large datasets
• Working within event-driven systems using Azure Service Bus
Core Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
• Strong C# / .NET backend engineering experience
• Proven, hands-on experience with at least one:
• Azure Data Explorer (ADX / Kusto)
• InfluxDB
• Or a comparable time-series database
• Demonstrable experience:
• Designing time-series data models
• Building ingestion pipelines
• Optimising queries at scale
• Working on production systems handling high data volumes
Tech Environment
• C# / .NET
• Azure (Functions, AKS, Storage)
• Azure Service Bus
• ADX / Kusto or InfluxDB
• Docker / Kubernetes
Additional Context
Candidates will be expected to talk through real implementations, including schema design, partitioning strategy, and query optimisation. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on performance and scalability.
