Role description
Position Overview The Cloud Engineer will design, deploy, secure, and optimize cloud environments supporting federal mission systems. This role requires hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and the ability to work within federal compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, NIST, RMF). The ideal candidate excels in automation, IaC (Infrastructure as Code), and cloud operations. Key Responsibilities Cloud Architecture & Deployment Design and implement secure, scalable cloud solutions in AWS/Azure/GCP. Deploy and configure cloud services including compute, storage, networking, and identity. Implement and manage IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep). Cloud Security & Compliance Apply federal security standards (NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, RMF). Integrate cloud-native security tools (WAF, GuardDuty, Security Hub, Sentinel, Defender). Support ATO processes, security scans, SSP updates, and continuous monitoring. Automation & DevOps Build CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, Azure DevOps). Automate configuration management (Ansible, Puppet, Chef). Implement container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS, AKS). Cloud Operations & Optimization Monitor cloud environments for performance, cost, and compliance. Troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure and networking issues. Manage patching, updates, and environment hardening. Collaboration & Documentation Work closely with PMs, security teams, data engineers, and application developers. Develop system diagrams, design documents, runbooks, and SOPs. Support government technical reviews and briefings. Required Qualifications 3–7+ years of cloud engineering experience. Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP (multi-cloud preferred). Proficiency with IaC: Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM/Bicep. Strong knowledge of cloud networking (VPC, VNets, security groups, routing). Experience with container platforms (EKS, AKS, ECS, Kubernetes). Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps tools. Experience working in secure or regulated environments (FedRAMP, NIST, DoD). Preferred Qualifications Certifications (any of the following): AWS Solutions Architect Associate/Pro AWS SysOps Administrator Azure Administrator / Solutions Architect Google Professional Cloud Engineer Security+ or CISSP (for security-oriented roles) Experience supporting federal agencies (DoD, DHS, DOJ, HHS, Treasury, etc.). Python, Bash, or PowerShell scripting experience. Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, Splunk, Grafana). Soft Skills Excellent communication and ability to interface with government clients. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability. Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-contractor environments. High attention to documentation and compliance.
