Role description
CMDB Administrator (ServiceNow) Duration: 8-month contract with intent to convert Location: Remote Travel: None Role Overview Seeking a CMDB Administrator to manage and mature the Configuration Management Database on the ServiceNow platform. This is a highly process-driven role focused on CMDB governance, data quality, discovery, and accountability. The CMDB is currently in an early maturity stage, and this role will play a key part in strengthening ownership models, improving data reliability, and reducing manual maintenance. The CMDB Administrator will work closely with CI class owners, the ITOM owner, and the ServiceNow platform team to ensure configuration data is accurate, trusted, and actively maintained by the right stakeholders. Key Responsibilities CMDB Governance & Ownership • Own governance, standards, and operating processes for the ServiceNow CMDB • Drive accountability with CI class owners, shifting ownership of data maintenance to the business and IT teams • Chair and support Configuration Control Board (CCB) activities as needed CMDB Operations & Data Quality • Maintain CMDB accuracy, completeness, and health across all CI classes • Perform CI remediation, including duplicates, malformed records, and custom attribute issues • Track and enforce compliance with CMDB policies and procedures • Support audits and compliance efforts (SOX, COBIT, PCI, etc.) Discovery & Integration • Manage ServiceNow Discovery configuration and ongoing health • Partner with ITOM to integrate data from monitoring and discovery tools • Oversee data sources including Discovery, SCCM, and AWS Service Graph Connectors • Review and monitor integrations, credentials, and security standards Process & Reporting • Define and document CMDB processes for data collection, validation, and maintenance • Build dashboards, reports, and KPIs focused on CMDB health, quality, and compliance • Analyze CMDB data to identify gaps, trends, and improvement opportunities Collaboration & Enablement • Work closely with Service Desk, Infrastructure, Application, and Platform teams • Support Change, Incident, and Problem workflows related to configuration data • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship on CMDB concepts, policies, and best practices • Support strategic initiatives to ensure CMDB requirements are addressed within project timelines Current Environment • CMDB maturity is early stage with foundational framework in place • Discovery is the primary data source and considered reliable • Minimal manual data maintenance outside of select systems (POS, IP cameras) • AWS teams are currently the most engaged CI owners • Platform team includes developers, business analyst, QA, Scrum Master, and ITOM owner Required Qualifications • 3+ years of experience in IT Service Management with strong CMDB focus • Hands-on ServiceNow experience, particularly CMDB and Discovery • Solid understanding of CSDM and configuration management practices • Experience working in Agile teams and production environments • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence data ownership Preferred • ITIL Foundation certification • Experience with ITOM, ITSM, Change Management, and Enterprise Architecture modules
