The Role Manchester United is seeking a talented and driven individual to join our Commercial Division within the Commercial Operations department. The Commercial Data Visualiser will report to the Commercial Insights Manager. The team will take an innovation-led approach to uncovering key insights that drive growth across the Club’s commercial ecosystem. This is a fixed term contract focused on our current visualisation tool: PowerBI We need a skilled data visualiser to bring the data to life and support how we review and understand what is happening across all our commercial ventures. In this role, the Commercial Data Visualiser will work closely with stakeholders across the club to identify key challenges and opportunities—using data to uncover actionable insights that support the growth of Manchester United’s sponsorship, direct-to-consumer (D2C) and Venue businesses. This includes a wide range of products and touchpoints such as eCommerce, Membership, Content, Marketing, MUTV, ticketing, hospitality, and our digital platforms (web and app). Key Responsibilities • Produce high-quality reports and dashboards (currently in Power BI) • Apply strong data visualisation principles to create user-friendly dashboards • Gather requirements by understanding and clearly communicating technical possibilities and limitations • Translate user requirements into technical features and provide feedback when requests are not feasible • Manage the portfolio of all commercial dashboards and reports • Monitor report usage to identify underused dashboards and recommend retirement when appropriate • Advise when to create new reports versus enhancing existing ones • Maintain a clean, well-structured dashboard portfolio that avoids unnecessary complexity • Ensure users understand the most efficient and effective ways to use each report • Perform data modelling using SQL for ingestion and DAX within Power BI • Demonstrate a strong understanding of database principles, star schemas, and dataset joins • Optimise performance by choosing appropriate methods (DirectQuery vs Import, caching strategies) • Write efficient DAX measures to ensure performant reports • Train users on how to use dashboards effectively • Design dashboards to be intuitive, while providing additional support for complex reports when needed The Person • Strong PowerBI experience is essential for this role • Experienced in building impactful data visualisations that communicate insights • Adobe or Google Analytics experience preferable • AWS datalake or Databricks experience preferable • SQL experience preferable • Other data visualisation platform experience will be beneficial to the role – as we are going to review our data visualisation strategy and approach • Solid understanding of the sports and entertainment landscape, including teams, venues, fans, commercial models, and emerging industry trends. • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment. • Capable of operating at both strategic and tactical levels, with the agility to adapt to changing priorities and business needs. • Highly numerate, with the ability to interpret and analyse a wide range of data sources including demographic, transactional, and behavioural datasets. • Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration, working across departments to achieve shared goals. • Maintains high standards of quality, with strong attention to detail and robust quality assurance practices. • Able to present complex insights to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and compelling way. • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. • Analytical, strategic thinker with a problem-solving mindset. • Strong time management and prioritisation skills, able to handle competing demands. • Commercial acumen: able to solve business orientated problems, have an interest and show understanding across all club commercial area. • Attention to detail: someone who is good at designing dashboards with strong attention to detail especially formatting, consistency What We Offer At Manchester United, we recognise that our people are at the heart of our success.
