Role description
Title: Containers / EKS Specialist
Location: Remote (US)
Duration: 4+ months
EKS platform design and golden cluster implementation. The work requires deep Kubernetes expertise but operates within well-defined AWS service boundaries. Strong EKS, CNI, and Terraform experience. Customer-facing and high-visibility, strong communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
• Assess current EKS landscape (20+ clusters) and design consolidation strategy
• Evaluate and resolve CNI and service mesh decisions
• Design and implement the Golden Cluster template using Terraform
• Implement CNI, network policies, and service mesh
• Design ingress controller strategy and persistent storage
• Define pilot scope and deploy/validate pilot workload end-to-end
• Design EKS upgrade procedures and cluster lifecycle runbook
• Deploy GitHub Actions Runner Controller on EKS if adopted
Required Skills
• Amazon EKS — deep operational experience
• Kubernetes — RBAC, namespaces, PodSecurityStandards
• CNI — VPC CNI, Cilium, Calico
• Service mesh — Istio (Ambient/sidecar), Cilium mesh
• Ingress — ALB Ingress Controller, Nginx, Istio Gateway
• Helm, Terraform — EKS module development
• Persistent storage — EFS CSI, EBS CSI, Velero
• Python microservices experience preferred
