Job Title: Credit Strategy Data Scientist Location: Remote - San Jose California 95002 Pay Rate: $50–$53/hr (W2) Duration: 12-Month Contract Interview process: Multiple (At home screening, 1 technical interview with senior team member, 1 interview panel with hiring manager and team member). Team size: 5 team members, position will work closely with a senior team member At outset, role will largely focus on reporting, so experience with visualization and data storytelling is a plus About the Role We’re seeking a highly skilled Credit Strategy Data Scientist to join a forward-thinking Credit Risk Strategy team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong analytical mindset, deep experience in credit risk or financial analytics, and a passion for driving data-driven decisions. You will lead strategic initiatives aimed at improving credit risk assessment, reducing losses, and optimizing customer experience. Key Responsibilities • Develop and implement rules to detect and mitigate credit losses • Investigate complex or high-impact credit risk cases and identify root causes • Define and refine strategies for various risk types • Partner with product and engineering teams to enhance credit control capabilities • Design and present credit strategies, ensuring smooth execution • Balance loss mitigation with customer eligibility to maximize business outcomes Qualifications • 2+ years of experience in risk analytics, data science, or data analysis, ideally within fintech or online payments • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, etc.) or equivalent experience • Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and Excel, including use of data science libraries • Demonstrated ability to work with large, complex datasets • Experience creating dashboards and data visualizations (e.g., Tableau) • Clear communicator with the ability to present insights to both technical and non-technical audiences • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and translating data into actionable strategies • Proven track record of analytical decision-making and impact Preferred Experience • Familiarity with AWS, payment rule systems, and credit products • Background in developing data-driven risk solutions • Experience with RaaS (Rules-as-a-Service) platforms • Project management and stakeholder engagement skills What You Can Expect in the First 6–12 Months • Develop dashboards and visualizations to track key credit performance indicators • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to design and execute loss mitigation strategies • Analyze customer behavior and system data to identify and address emerging risk patterns • Deliver actionable recommendations to business leaders through compelling data presentations • Contribute to the evolution of real-time, scalable credit risk systems that enhance customer experience.
