Job Description: • As a member of the News Acquisition Data Engineering team, you will be tasked with acquiring content for market-moving events in real time and bringing that content onto the Terminal for client usage. • Here speed and accuracy are paramount, as our success or failure is measured in milliseconds and the team operates under deadline-pressure to cover these events. • Strong communication skills are necessary, as you will be expected to clearly explain both successes and failures to our stakeholders. • Our goal is to innovate, and therefore we welcome diverse skills, experiences, and ideas. • Our focus is on data acquisition, processing, and distribution. • We are looking for people who are self-motivated, think big and move fast to contribute to our dynamic environment. • Last but certainly not least, you’ll be trusted to bring curiosity, passion, problem solving skills, and an entrepreneurial spirit to the table. • Together, we will change the way we develop products. • You’ll be joining a team responsible for Data Acquisition, one of the core services provided by Data Technologies Engineering. • The team is responsible for using in-house web-crawling software to bring valuable content to both our internal and external clients, as well as developing cutting-edge technologies to redefine our content & data • acquisition tools. • Working in a team environment, you will develop technical solutions that not only improve how we acquire content, but also how we inventory, enrich, classify, and route that content to the teams that require it. • This will mean anything from building web-scrapers, developing pipelines that will enrich acquired content, to working with stakeholders to implement these solutions to meet their business needs. We'll trust you to • Build and maintain dynamic web scraping jobs, which acquire News content for our clients in a both fast and accurate manner • Develop configurable systems and methods for acquiring content from internal and external sources • Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot issues for the production systems & acquisition processes you are responsible for • Communicate consistently with project stakeholders throughout the development life cycle • Collaborate with product owners, data analysts, data scientists and infrastructure engineers to develop creative solutions • Apply problem-solving skills to find the most optimal approach to acquire content from target data sources You’ll need to have • Comfort with diverse data processes and systems • Excellent communication skills, especially when explaining technical processes and solutions to business stakeholders and management • A Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, similar field of study or equivalent work experience We’d love to see: • Proficiency with git, linux, python ecosystem, web services, and API usage • Comfort with web technologies including html, css, Xpath and JavaScript • Familiarity with SQL & NoSQL database systems • 1+ years working with an object-oriented programming language, preferably Python • Demonstrated experience in web crawling • Full spectrum of project management skills: ideation, prioritization, communication, delivery • Familiarity with general news and company news sources
