Data Acquisition Engineer
Our client is seeking a Data Acquisition Engineer to join a team focused on delivering real-time news and data through innovative, high-performance technology solutions. This role is part of a group responsible for acquiring, processing, and distributing critical content related to market-moving events, where speed and accuracy are paramount.
The successful candidate will work on acquiring high-value information and ensuring its timely delivery to end users. Operating under strict deadlines, the engineer must demonstrate clear and effective communication, particularly when reporting technical outcomes to various stakeholders.

This position is central to our clientβs core Data Acquisition function within their broader Data Technologies Engineering group. The engineer will work with in-house tools and contribute to the development of new technologies for acquiring, enriching, classifying, and routing content. Projects may include building web scrapers, developing data pipelines, and collaborating closely with internal stakeholders to align solutions with business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Design, build, and maintain dynamic web scraping systems for acquiring news content quickly and accurately
β’ Develop flexible acquisition tools that gather content from both internal and external sources
β’ Monitor and troubleshoot production acquisition systems
β’ Maintain regular communication with project stakeholders throughout the development cycle
β’ Collaborate with product owners, analysts, data scientists, and infrastructure teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
β’ Apply strong analytical skills to develop effective content acquisition strategies
Required Qualifications:
β’ Experience with diverse data systems and workflows
β’ Strong verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
β’ Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
Preferred Qualifications:
β’ Proficiency with Git, Linux, Python, web services, and API integrations
β’ Familiarity with web technologies including HTML, CSS, XPath, and JavaScript
β’ Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
β’ At least one year of experience with an object-oriented programming language, preferably Python
β’ Demonstrated experience in web crawling
β’ End-to-end project management skills from concept through delivery
β’ Familiarity with general and financial news sources
