Role description
Airswift is seeking Data Analyst III for an initial 12 months to support a major O&G client. Location: Denver, CO Contract Duration: 12 months with the possibility of extension Schedule: 9/80 - Hybrid We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst to join our Rockies region team on a contract basis, providing dedicated analytical support to the Drilling & Completions (D&C) organization. This is a strategic role embedded within operations, where you will transform raw data into actionable insights that drive operational efficiency, well delivery performance, and capital optimization. The ideal candidate will become a trusted data partner to D&C leadership, engineers, and field personnel, delivering high-quality analytics, dashboards, and automated solutions that directly impact business outcomes. This role requires a seasoned professional who can work independently, solve complex problems, and communicate findings effectively at all levels, including executive management. Key Responsibilities Data Analysis & Insights β€’ Extract, analyze, and interpret complex datasets to derive insights that drive strategic business decisions. β€’ Develop and maintain SQL queries against enterprise data systems (OXYODS, OpenWells, operational databases) to support D&C reporting and analysis. β€’ Perform detailed analysis of drilling and completions performance, timelines, costs, and operational KPIs. β€’ Translate technical findings into actionable business insights and recommendations. Dashboard Development & Visualization β€’ Build, enhance, and manage Power BI and/or Spotfire dashboards for D&C and Operations teams. β€’ Create insightful visualizations that communicate complex data clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders. β€’ Maintain dashboard integrity by troubleshooting issues, reconnecting data sources, and optimizing refresh performance. β€’ Ensure reporting solutions align with enterprise BI standards. Process Automation & Optimization β€’ Utilize automation tools to streamline data analysis and business processes. β€’ Identify manual, repetitive processes and implement automated solutions. β€’ Develop reusable SQL templates, stored procedures, and data pipelines for recurring analysis. β€’ Continuously identify optimization opportunities in data workflows and reporting. Collaboration & Stakeholder Support β€’ Work closely with D&C engineers, operations leads, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and provide analytical support. β€’ Collaborate effectively with data engineers, data scientists, and IT teams. β€’ Respond swiftly to ad-hoc data requests while maintaining quality standards. β€’ Document data lineage, business logic, and reporting methodologies. Data Quality & Governance β€’ Develop data validation queries and perform continuous QC across source systems. β€’ Monitor data freshness and proactively flag anomalies. β€’ Support master data management for wells, pads, assets, and operational hierarchies. Required Qualifications β€’ 3+ years of professional experience as a Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, or similar role. β€’ 2+ years writing complex SQL queries in production environments, including creating new queries from scratch and optimizing existing ones. β€’ 2+ years hands-on experience building and managing Power BI and/or Spotfire dashboards. β€’ Experience supporting operations, engineering, or field teams in a data-intensive environment. Technical Skills β€’ Expert-level SQL including CTEs, subqueries, joins, aggregations, window functions, and string manipulation. β€’ Proficiency in Power BI (preferred) or Spotfire for building dashboards and reports (required). β€’ Strong understanding of relational database concepts and data modeling. β€’ Proficiency in Excel for data manipulation and analysis. β€’ Experience with version control systems (Git, Azure DevOps) for code management is a plus. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills β€’ Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities in a data-intensive environment. β€’ Ability to perform detailed analysis and translate complex data into clear business insights. β€’ Strong attention to detail with focus on data accuracy and completeness. β€’ Comfortable working with ambiguous requirements and iterating toward solutions. Communication & Collaboration β€’ Excellent communication, presentation, and data storytelling skills. β€’ Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate professionally at all levels, including executive management. β€’ Ability to work effectively in a team, collaborating with engineers, operations, and business stakeholders. β€’ Self-starter who can manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Education β€’ Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, or related field. Preferred Qualifications β€’ Drilling & Completions knowledge and/or upstream oil & gas experience strongly preferred. β€’ Experience with OpenWells or similar well data management systems (Landmark, PPDM-based applications). β€’ Knowledge of oil & gas operational metrics including well-level data (API numbers, pads, formations, lateral lengths), drilling metrics (spud dates, drill days, directional surveys), and completion metrics (stages, proppant, pump schedules, frac timelines). β€’ Programming skills in Python or R for advanced analytics and automation. β€’ Experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps) for workflow automation. β€’ Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS) What You'll Work With β€’ Stakeholders: Drilling & Completions, Operations, Field personnel, Business units, Regulatory, HSE β€’ Databases: OXYODS, OpenWells, operational and financial planning systems β€’ BI Tools: Power BI, Spotfire β€’ Data Types: Drilling/completions data, well timelines, KPIs, cost data, milestone dates β€’ Tools: SQL Server Management Studio, Excel, Power BI, Spotfire, Git/Azure DevOps
