Role description
Valued Cultures is dedicated to improving game studio culture by empowering studios to make games faster, better, and more sustainably. In the spring of 2024, Valued Cultures released β€œWinning Game Studio Culture in the Post-Pandemic Era.”  The report drew upon interviews and surveys from 125+ game studio leaders, combining deep qualitative insights with quantitative analysis to trace how the secular trends driving the game industry were affecting the all-important ways that talent work together within game-making studios. We have inaugurated our research on a new report to be published in Q1’26, drawing upon our previous learnings, but also digging deeper into a number of trends that are preeminent today, notably:Β  β€œReturn to Office”, the impacts of Artificial Intelligence, the headwinds currently facing the industry. We are seeking a detail-oriented Data Analyst to supplement our team on a contract basis during this process, conducting some analysis on our early data, and then ultimately helping us turn the final data into a compelling report. The project will take place over several months, with ~100 hours of work to be completed in that span. There may be opportunities for the successful candidate to continue working with other data we gather and deploy in our day-to-day work. Key Responsibilities: Analysis & Insights β€’ Conduct statistical analysis on survey data to identify trends, patterns, and outliers in game studio culture β€’ Perform comparative analysis across such dimensions as: studio size, region, game type, and development stages β€’ Synthesize qualitative interview data with quantitative findings to create comprehensive insights β€’ Identify correlations between cultural practices and studio outcomes (retention, productivity, longevity) β€’ Contribute to the development of frameworks for measuring cultural "intentionality" and other key culture metrics Visualization & Reporting β€’ Create clear, compelling data visualizations that communicate complex findings to diverse audiences β€’ Collaborate with report authors to integrate data findings into narrative insights β€’ Prepare data summaries and infographics for public-facing materials Research Support β€’ Work closely with researchers conducting interviews to identify data collection opportunities β€’ Recommend survey design improvements based on data quality and response patterns β€’ Suggest new research questions based on emerging data trends β€’ Support the development of research methodologies and best practices Required Skills: Technical Skills: β€’ Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills including pivot tables, complex formulas, and data modeling β€’ Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar) β€’ Familiarity with survey platforms such as SurveyMonkey β€’ Bonus skills: β€’ Experience with SQL β€’ Statistical analysis software (R, Python, SPSS, or similar) Analytical Skills: Strong statistical analysis capabilities including descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and basic inferential statistics Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English with ability to translate complex data into accessible insights Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to data accuracy and quality control Other Information: β€’ Valued Cultures works mainly on Pacific Time; the successful candidate will be able to occasionally meet with us virtually during PT working hours β€’ Valued Cultures is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, or disability To Apply: Please send a resume and brief letter of how your skills and experience meet the requirements to: Mike.Merrill@valuedcultures.com We will consider applications on a rolling basis, but plan on beginning to interview candidates early in December.Β  Our first tranche of candidates will from those who apply by December 10, 2025.
