About the role
The IT Data Architect evaluates systems/databases and builds logical and physical database models based on organizational standards, technology requirements, and business requirements. The role is a key participant in the project development life cycle and responsible for identifying data gaps in the functional coverage for application systems, operational reporting, and/or the data warehouse for analytics. The role ensures the solutions being used by the organization are recoverable, scalable, reliable, and secure. The Data Architect is responsible for ensuring standards are followed.
Description
Perform Design & Data Analysis
Reviewing requirements, workshops, or working directly with a business team member
Reviewing/querying various systems β familiarity with Query language β SQL/T-SQL
Create Data Models (Logical & Physical) β (ERD β Entity Relationship Diagrams)
Data Warehouse β Must be able to create data models with well-defined dimensions, conformed dimensions, facts, and aggregated facts. Must be able to use the Kimball methodology.
Applications β Can create data models for new applications, and reverse engineer data models in modeling tools for existing applications.
You will be using ER/Studio as the tool to perform this.
Create DDL for database objects utilizing ER/Studio.
Use Visual Studio for source control and generate scripts for deployment into database environments.
Create Design Documents & Other Documentation
Create Data Mappings (source, target, and transformations needed) for source to Data Warehouse.
Create Data Mappings for Source to target systems (example: system to system integrations).
Must understand ETL / integration development concepts and tools to make sure your designs are usable for developers.
Create Data Dictionaries and Functional Data explanations (example: describe how data can be used to perform a function).
Facilitate discussions around data in new business processes/projects and identify if a new standard/pattern is required for data processes and data integrations.
Ability to look at existing data processes within the data warehouse load or system to system integrations and suggest design improvements.
