Your next role We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Data Engineer specialised in Archiving to join our Digital & Data Team. This is a fundamental role in developing our data maturity and supporting the Council to become a truly data-enabled organisation. You will be joining a dedicated small team, working closely alongside our Principal Data Engineer to shape and develop the organisational data archiving solution. In this key position, you will be working of our long-term data preservation. You will design and implement scalable archiving strategies that balance complex regulatory compliance with the need for high-performance, accessible data. you will collaborate with architects, governance teams, and stakeholders across to ensure our data remains secure, cost-efficient, and a valuable asset for years to come. We are focused on supporting your professional development and offer a collaborative environment where you can utilise a range of cutting-edge cloud and engineering tools. The Successful Candidate Will Require The Following Skills • You have a strong background in enterprise data engineering and a passion for designing cold storage and tiered storage solutions that meet legal retention requirements. • You can evidence hands-on experience with SQL, programming languages like Python or Scala, and cloud platforms such as Azure. • You will require good experience in using Azure services, including Data Factory, Blob Storage, and Notebooks, alongside a strong understanding of DevOps practices. • Experience in building and optimising ETL/ELT pipelines to manage large, diverse datasets across structured and unstructured formats. • The ability to translate complex, technical data concepts into simple, accessible language for non-technical stakeholders and partners. • You thrive working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to data documentation and helping others understand the potential of their data. The team operates a hybrid working model, you will be expected to be in the office for a minimum of 1 day per week. You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
