Job Title: Starburst & Immuta Data Engineer (Azure Cloud) Experience: 3+ Years Location: Preferred: DC/Richmond - Alternate - Remote Position Overview We are seeking a skilled Starburst & Immuta Data Engineer with 3+ years of hands-on experience in Azure cloud environments. The ideal candidate will design, implement, and manage secure, governed data access solutions using Starburst and Immuta for policy-based data security and compliance. This role requires strong expertise in cloud-native data architecture, distributed query engines, and enterprise data governance frameworks. Key Responsibilities • Design and implement data virtualization solutions using Starburst across multiple data sources. • Configure and manage Immuta for data access governance, policy enforcement, and dynamic data masking. • Deploy and manage data solutions in Microsoft Azure (Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL, Synapse, etc.). • Develop and optimize SQL queries and data pipelines for performance and scalability. • Implement row-level, column-level, and attribute-based access controls. • Integrate Starburst with Azure-based data sources (ADLS Gen2, Azure SQL DB, Cosmos DB, etc.). • Collaborate with Data Architects, Security teams, and DevOps engineers to enforce enterprise data governance. • Configure new catalogs in Starburst, integrating with Immuta access controls • Managing SCIM functions supporting user profiles in Starburst and Immuta • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot query performance issues. • Support CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code deployments (Terraform, ARM templates). • Ensure compliance with enterprise security and regulatory standards (HIPAA, FedRAMP, etc., if applicable). Required Qualifications • 3+ years of experience in data engineering within an Azure cloud environment. • Hands-on experience with Starburst Enterprise • Experience implementing Immuta data governance and policy management. • Strong SQL expertise and experience optimizing distributed queries. • Experience working with Azure services: • Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS Gen2) • Azure Synapse Analytics • Azure SQL Database • Azure Active Directory (AAD) • Knowledge of data security frameworks and governance best practices. • Experience integrating data platforms with identity providers (Azure AD, SSO). • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps preferred). Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Iceberg, Delta Lake, or other open table formats. • Exposure to Data Vault 2.0 or enterprise data modeling.
