Core4ce is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to support data and metadata ingestion, structuring, and quality management for the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Data Governance program. The ideal candidate will design and maintain data pipelines, implement data quality validation, and ensure metadata collected from multiple source systems is accurate, complete, and usable to support governance and reporting objectives.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, implement, and maintain data ingestion and transformation pipelines
• Normalize and structure metadata extracted from disparate source systems
• Support metadata harvesting and automation workflows in coordination with Integration / Software Engineers
• Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and completeness assessments
• Support exception handling and remediation workflows for data gaps and inconsistencies
• Generate metrics and reports related to data completeness, quality, and refresh cadence
• Collaborate with: Chief Architect on canonical data and metadata models, Data Governance Analyst on stewardship and quality rules, and DevSecOps Engineer on pipeline deployment and monitoring
• Support testing, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of data workflows
• Contribute to technical documentation and implementation artifacts
• This position is designed to be flexible, with responsibilities evolving to meet business needs and enable individual growth.
Required Qualifications
• 6+ years of experience as a Data Engineer supporting Federal IT programs
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
• Strong hands-on experience with SQL, data transformations, and data modeling
• Experience building and maintaining data pipelines and ingestion workflows
• Familiarity with metadata management concepts, including data lineage, provenance, and quality indicators
• Experience working in secure, RMF-governed environments
• Ability to operate within Agile or hybrid Agile/Waterfall delivery models
• Strong collaboration skills across engineering, governance, and analytics teams
• Familiarity with clinical and healthcare data standards, including FHIR, HL7, OMOP, ICD-10, or similar models
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) programs
• Defense Health Agency (DHA) or health IT experience strongly preferred
• Experience supporting enterprise data platforms, repositories, or data catalogs
• Familiarity with fixed-price, milestone-based Federal contracts
• Experience working with healthcare or clinical datasets, including normalization, transformation, and metadata enrichment
• Understanding of how clinical data standards influence data modeling, metadata structures, and data quality rules
• Prior experience supporting health IT, clinical analytics, or healthcare data integration efforts
• Experience supporting federated or enterprise data ecosystems
• Familiarity with data catalogs, governance platforms, or metadata repositories
• Exposure to health data systems, analytics platforms, or enterprise reporting environments
