Role description
Job Title: Data Movement Engineer (Snowflake)
Location: New Haven, CT (prefer hybrid but open for 100% remote for the right candidate)
Responsibilities
β’ Manage end-to-end Snowflake data operations, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing data pipelines.
β’ Design, develop, and optimize Snowflake data pipelines, models, SQL queries, and warehouse configurations for performance and scalability.
β’ Translate business requirements into Snowflake-based data movement and integration solutions.
β’ Monitor and resolve data integrity, latency, and pipeline failures; perform root cause analysis and testing prior to production releases.
β’ Implement best practices for data ingestion, transformation, security, and modeling, including CDC and SCD Type 2.
β’ Support Data Vault and dimensional modeling frameworks.
β’ Provide production support for Snowflake, IBM DB2, and orchestration tools (Airflow, ESP).
β’ Ensure data quality through validation, reconciliation, governance, metadata, and lineage tracking.
β’ Collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide technical leadership, code reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
β’ Maintain documentation, support playbooks, incident procedures, and provide status reporting.
β’ Participate in on-call or after-hours support as needed.
Qualifications
β’ 5+ years of experience in data warehousing, BI, and analytics; 3+ years of advanced SQL development.
β’ Strong expertise in Snowflake development, data modeling, and security (Snowflake certification preferred).
β’ Proficiency in SQL, Python, and/or shell scripting.
β’ Experience with cloud data platforms, orchestration tools (Airflow, ESP), CI/CD, and version control (Git).
β’ Hands-on experience with CDC, SCD Type 2, Data Vault, and dimensional modeling.
β’ Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills; ability to work independently.
Education
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
