Role description
Lead Data Engineer
Rate: £450 per day (Outside IR35)
Duration: 6 months
Start: ASAP
Location: Hybrid – 1 day per week on-site in Stratford, London
A leading technology consultancy is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join on an initial 6-month engagement. The organisation specialises in accelerating digital delivery and helping businesses build high-performing digital products and teams.
With a strong presence across the UK, Europe, and the US, the company operates a regional model that fosters close collaboration with clients, enabling impactful and scalable digital solutions.
The Lead Data Engineer will act as a technical authority across key initiatives, providing leadership and mentorship while driving the design and delivery of robust, scalable data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
• Act as technical lead on key initiatives, providing guidance and mentorship to engineering teams
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Project Managers, and Architects to define and refine requirements
• Translate high-level designs into scalable, production-ready solutions
• Support solution architecture and contribute to transition and delivery activities
• Contribute to and shape testing strategies and implementation plans
• Serve as the primary technical liaison for scientific teams, translating research workflows into technical solutions
• Design and implement cloud-based solutions for complex data and scientific workloads
• Apply Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and DevOps best practices
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to improve automation, reliability, and efficiency
Key Skills & Experience
• Strong experience with AWS and hybrid cloud environments
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• Solid programming experience in Python and/or R
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Linux environments
• Knowledge of cloud-native architecture and services
• Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases
• Familiarity with messaging and event-driven architectures

• Candidates must be able to commute to Stratford once per week
• Immediate availability or short notice preferred
