Data Engineer (Consultant) – Azure | UK Government Programme
Location: Primarily Remote (Ad hoc travel to Leeds required)
Contract Length: Initial 3 months (likely extension)
Day Rate: £440 per day (Inside IR35)

Overview
We are supporting a major UK Government programme seeking an experienced Data Engineer (Consultant level) to join an established data team. This role will play a key part in designing and delivering scalable data solutions within a highly governed environment.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high-impact public sector initiative with strong potential for contract extension.
Key Requirements
• Proven experience as a Data Engineer within UK Government environments
• Strong expertise across the Azure data ecosystem
• Hands-on experience building and optimising data pipelines at scale
• Expertise in:
• Data modelling and schema design
• Data quality and governance
• Performance tuning within large data platforms
• Change Data Capture (CDC) pipelines
• Experience working within highly regulated or governed data environments
• Comfortable working remotely with occasional travel to Leeds
Technical Skills
Experience with the following technologies is highly desirable:
• Azure Data Factory (ADF)
• Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS Gen2)
• Azure Synapse Analytics
• Delta Lake
• Event Hubs
• Azure Database Migration Service (DMS)
• Large-scale ETL processing frameworks
Desirable Experience
• Background in healthcare or health data projects
• Exposure to complex government data programmes
What You’ll Be Doing
• Designing and developing robust end-to-end data pipelines
• Ensuring data integrity, quality, and performance optimisation
• Supporting schema management and data modelling strategies
• Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary delivery team
• Contributing to the evolution of scalable Azure-based data platforms
Additional Information
• Must be eligible for BPSS clearance
• Candidates must be based in the UK and available for occasional onsite collaboration in Leeds
