Role description
Local and W2 only!! No C2C please. If you’re a data engineer who thrives in SQL-heavy, Microsoft-driven environments, this is your playground. As our Senior Data Engineer, you’ll architect, build, and optimize modern data platforms that power analytics, BI, and AI initiatives across the company. Your mission: turn complex data challenges into scalable, automated solutions in Azure, while mentoring teammates and shaping a forward-looking data strategy. This isn’t just about keeping the pipelines flowing—this is a leadership-level role where you’ll guide everything from migration projects to governance standards. You’ll get to work with an advanced Microsoft stack (SQL Server, Synapse, Azure Data Lake, Power BI, and more) and help push the organization toward cutting-edge, cloud-first engineering. What You’ll Do • Architect & Build Pipelines: Own the full lifecycle of ETL/ELT pipelines across SQL Server, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, and more, integrating on-prem, cloud, and API data sources. • Design for Scale: Lead the creation of warehouses, lakes, and lakehouses with star/snowflake schemas and modern Delta/Parquet storage. • SQL Expertise: Write and optimize complex T-SQL queries, stored procs, and indexing strategies for massive datasets. • Azure Cloud Engineering: Design secure, cost-efficient Azure data ecosystems, including migrations from legacy systems. • Power Analytics: Prep data for BI, ML, and reporting—owning semantic models and refresh strategies for Power BI. • DevOps & Automation: Implement CI/CD, Git workflows, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, ARM). Automate deployments and monitoring. • Data Quality & Governance: Enforce validation, monitoring, and regulatory compliance (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.) with tools like Purview. • Leadership & Mentorship: Partner with business stakeholders, mentor engineers, and champion best practices. What You Bring • Experience: • 6+ years in data engineering, delivering production-grade solutions in Microsoft-heavy environments. • 3+ years hands-on with SQL Server (2016+), T-SQL, SSIS/SSRS, and advanced stored procedures. • Azure Data Platform mastery (Data Factory, Synapse, Data Lake, Databricks/Microsoft Fabric). • Proven chops in distributed and cloud-native architectures. • Technical Skills: • SQL Server pro: schema design, query tuning, indexing. • Deep knowledge of Azure Data services. • Programming skills in Python, C#, or Java. • Strong grasp of warehousing, dimensional modeling, and ELT best practices. • Cloud/DevOps: • Azure-native security and RBAC experience. • CI/CD automation via Azure DevOps/Jenkins. • Hands-on with monitoring/logging frameworks like Azure Monitor or Grafana. • Education: Bachelor’s degree in CS, IT, Engineering, Math, or related; Master’s or certifications a plus. • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, troubleshooting under pressure, and agile team collaboration. Bonus Points • Microsoft certifications (DP-203, DP-700). • Experience modernizing SQL solutions for Azure cloud. • Advanced Power BI expertise (DAX, DirectQuery, incremental refresh). • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, or Data Mesh concepts. • Infrastructure-as-Code and containerization experience (Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes). • ML/AI integration exposure. • Industry compliance expertise (SOX, HIPAA, PCI-DSS). • Real-time streaming data platforms (Kafka, Event Hubs, Kusto).
