Role description

Engagement Type: 1+ year contract, with potential to convert
To be eligible for this role, our client requires you to be a W2 employee of VALERE (no C2C subcontracting allowed, we do not sponsor visas).
VALERE is seeking a Data Engineer for our client. This individual will join the Radiology Data and Analytics team to design and implement a Radiology data warehouse and analytics environment using Microsoft Fabric. Working collaboratively with internal engineers and analysts, this role will contribute expertise in data architecture, pipeline development, and modeling to integrate institutional and Radiology data sources supporting analytics, reporting, and AI initiatives.
What You'll Do:
β’ Design and implement data architectures and data models within Microsoft Fabric
β’ Build, maintain, and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines using Fabric Data Pipelines or equivalent tools
β’ Integrate institutional and Radiology data sources to support analytics, reporting, and AI use cases
β’ Develop semantic models and dimensional/star schema structures for reporting
β’ Perform advanced SQL/T-SQL development, performance tuning, and complex transformations
β’ Support cloud-based data engineering best practices including CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and version control
β’ Implement metadata, lineage, and governance standards
β’ Collaborate with engineers, analysts, data scientists, and clinical stakeholders
β’ Mentor team members and contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives
What You Bring:
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; OR equivalent experience
β’ 5+ years of hands-on experience programming in SQL
β’ 5+ years building and maintaining automated data pipelines (batch and/or streaming)
β’ Proficiency with Microsoft Fabric (Data Warehouse, Data Pipelines, OneLake, Real-Time Analytics, Power BI integration)
β’ Strong data modeling skills (dimensional, star schema, semantic models)
β’ Experience orchestrating robust, parameterized, and testable data pipelines
β’ Proficiency with Python or similar scripting languages
β’ Experience designing scalable cloud data architectures within security frameworks
β’ Knowledge of metadata, lineage, and governance practices
β’ Understanding of IaC and CI/CD principles (Git, Azure DevOps, Terraform)
β’ Experience with clinical, imaging, or research datasets in a healthcare setting
β’ Awareness of HIPAA, PHI handling, de-identification, and healthcare compliance
β’ Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
β’ Demonstrated success working in cross-functional teams
β’ Relevant data engineering or cloud certifications helpful, but not required
Pay Rate: This is a contract role with an hourly rate of $67/hr.
