Title: Data Engineer (DB2 & Full-Stack Data Applications) Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid – minimum 3 days onsite per week) Duration- 12+ Months Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer who can work across complex SQL/NOSQL environments, develop scalable data applications, and collaborate closely with users, managers, and senior engineering teams. While the role is for a general Data Engineer, candidates must be open to working with DB2 in addition to other databases. Key Responsibilities β€’ Design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines, APIs, and real-time interactive applications. β€’ Implement complex business logic using SQL procedures and NoSQL utilities. β€’ Build and enhance Python-based microservices (FastAPI preferred). β€’ Collaborate with UI teams and backend systems to facilitate real-time data access and user interactions. β€’ Engage with business users to understand requirements, troubleshoot issues, and deliver effective solutions. β€’ Balance development work with ongoing support activities. β€’ Utilize AI tools, LLMs, coding agents, and testing agents to improve development workflows. β€’ Self-manage priorities across multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment. Required Qualifications β€’ 5+ years of experience in data engineering and development. β€’ Hands-on expertise with SQL and NoSQL databases such as: Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres, DB2, Elasticsearch, MongoDB. β€’ Advanced Python development experience, including microservices (FastAPI strongly preferred). β€’ Proven experience implementing business logic using SQL procedures and NoSQL workflows. β€’ Candidates must be able to list and explain at least two complex projects. β€’ Experience designing and developing scalable and performant systems. β€’ Should provide: β€’ Approx. transactions per day, β€’ Largest DB table size they’ve worked with, β€’ Concurrent user volume, β€’ Typical API response times. β€’ Expertise in tools, IDEs, and deployment processes used for Python libraries, microservices, and testing. β€’ Must explain their development β†’ QA β†’ release workflow and who managed deployments. β€’ Experience building real-time, user-interactive applications, integrating UI with backend/database. β€’ Must describe protocols/data formats used and provide two different approaches. β€’ Ability to showcase how they incorporated LLM models, coding agents, and testing agents in their development process (provide two specific examples). β€’ Ability to balance support and development tasks. β€’ Must provide breakdown of daily support vs. development work. β€’ Explain use of ticketing systems or direct user communication. β€’ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field. β€’ Must work onsite in Houston at least 3 days/week. β€’ Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot, learn quickly, and use AI tools to solve problems. β€’ Ability to multitask, manage priorities independently, and work directly with business stakeholders.
