Title: Data Engineer (DB2 & Full-Stack Data Applications) Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid – minimum 3 days onsite per week) Duration- 12+ Months Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer who can work across complex SQL/NOSQL environments, develop scalable data applications, and collaborate closely with users, managers, and senior engineering teams. While the role is for a general Data Engineer, candidates must be open to working with DB2 in addition to other databases. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines, APIs, and real-time interactive applications. • Implement complex business logic using SQL procedures and NoSQL utilities. • Build and enhance Python-based microservices (FastAPI preferred). • Collaborate with UI teams and backend systems to facilitate real-time data access and user interactions. • Engage with business users to understand requirements, troubleshoot issues, and deliver effective solutions. • Balance development work with ongoing support activities. • Utilize AI tools, LLMs, coding agents, and testing agents to improve development workflows. • Self-manage priorities across multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment. Required Qualifications • 5+ years of experience in data engineering and development. • Hands-on expertise with SQL and NoSQL databases such as: Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres, DB2, Elasticsearch, MongoDB. • Advanced Python development experience, including microservices (FastAPI strongly preferred). • Proven experience implementing business logic using SQL procedures and NoSQL workflows. • Candidates must be able to list and explain at least two complex projects. • Experience designing and developing scalable and performant systems. • Should provide: • Approx. transactions per day, • Largest DB table size they’ve worked with, • Concurrent user volume, • Typical API response times. • Expertise in tools, IDEs, and deployment processes used for Python libraries, microservices, and testing. • Must explain their development → QA → release workflow and who managed deployments. • Experience building real-time, user-interactive applications, integrating UI with backend/database. • Must describe protocols/data formats used and provide two different approaches. • Ability to showcase how they incorporated LLM models, coding agents, and testing agents in their development process (provide two specific examples). • Ability to balance support and development tasks. • Must provide breakdown of daily support vs. development work. • Explain use of ticketing systems or direct user communication. • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field. • Must work onsite in Houston at least 3 days/week. • Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot, learn quickly, and use AI tools to solve problems. • Ability to multitask, manage priorities independently, and work directly with business stakeholders.
